Really Poor QualityAnonymous reviewerIf you buy this book case you will find you cannot put books on the shelves as they are far too heavy for the shelf pegs and material used to make the bookcase. I had several books on a shelf (not heavy ones) and after a week the shelf pegs bent and tore through the side panel holes of the book shelf, where the pegs slot in to. Terrible quality. I will think again before purchasing furniture at ikea.1

Good quality for this priceAnonymous reviewerWe have two Billies standing next to each other and we bought Oxberg panel/glass doors on both of them to protect from dust and keep uglier things hidden in the bottom half. It is perfect addition in our living room and we could fit all our books, papers, sewing machine and many more things inside. And there is still more space. I loved the fact there is cutout for the skirting boards, but our skirting boards are higher so we had to cut even more, but it was quite quick adjustment.5

The quality of the product was great and looked more expensive when assembled. They were easy to build and took no time at all. I brought 3 and secured them together with a wood drill and screw. They hold so much and perfect for my needs.5

Material

What is particleboard?

Particleboard is made from recycled wood and sawmill leftovers – so wood pieces with the wrong shade, woodchips and sawdust become a resource instead of possibly being discarded. We use boards for things like bookcases, bed frames, sofas and kitchen frames. To protect from wear and moisture, we apply varnish, veneer or foil that adds to the furniture's look.

"When I got the assignment to design a simple, functional and smart storage for books, I couldn’t have imagined that BILLY bookcase would wind up in so many homes across the world. I remember being especially pleased with the adjustable shelves and the depth of the bookcase – perfect for books. We were also able to transport it in a flat pack - an idea I was actually first to develop. The bookcase is one of my favourites and I hope it will be around for many more years."
