DisappointingVerified BuyerWe bought Besta display unit with 2 drawers, 2 glass doors and glass shelves. Assembly instructions were reasonably clear. As this was not our first IKEA piece of furniture, we were really surprised when we put this unit together. The whole piece felt flimsy. It had no sturdiness to it and we found that it would wobble. We decided to strip it back to basics and build again but had no better result. We only managed to make it more stable by attaching some additional brackets we bought separately. Very disappointing, nothing like IKEA I used to know :(1
Makes an excellent deep bookshelf!Verified BuyerI love these, I have the tall units in my kitchen/lounge, and the mid size units stood on top of my desk in spare room to house printer and craft materials. Really simple to put together, just make sure you have enough clear floor space... At least 2 x height of the unit is needed as the back panel has to be slid into place from one end with the unit lying on it's back.5
Really hard to make. NotVerified BuyerReally hard to make. Not great.2
Besta double unitVerified BuyerHad installed a Besta living room unit last year and decided to add to it to make a bookshelf. Easy to follow instructions and slotted in beautifully in the space we had. So adaptable furniture and affordable. Finishes off the unit well.5
Easy to assembleVerified BuyerReally quick to put together. Feel sturdy look great now they are up5
Looks great in my new officeVerified BuyerCheap and looks tidy!5

Kitchen updateVerified BuyerLooks great, easy assembly and great quality5
GREAT basic unitVerified BuyerEasy to assemble. Only niggle are that the shelf bracket holes are very visible.4
A bit rickety as a stand alone unitKDog83A bit rickety as a stand alone unit but okay once full of books! There are two clips which dont really work well but the lack of these doesn’t seem to affect the construction3
Bad qualityChris RoNo as good as other flat pack furniture i had from them2
Looks nice but very wobblyNicks54321I am baffled by the poor quality of this Ikea product. After re-reading the installation guides several times i was confused by the amount of wobble in this product. I hoped adding x3 shelves and fixing to the wall would provide more stability but i was wrong.1
Product is unstableHuw2020This product is unstable when constructed. There is too much lateral movement when built even with secured shelves. The wobble is even worse with the besta doors fitted and almost impossible to get the doors lined up as the entire unit shifts when they're opened. Connecting two units together with the enclosed screws makes no difference to stability. This needs a cross-brace as part of the construction. If you are going to buy this, invest in an IKEA OBSERVATÖR - currently £2 and attach it to the back during construction.1
Great storageLHL18aBought to match previously purchased items from several years ago, so very happy that it matched existing item when moved to a new house. Great storage for just about anything!5
Great storage at a affordable priceAMRomNo issues putting together and good stable piece of storage.5
Great for small storage needststibbsJust like the entire Besta range this is great for storage. We mounted on the wall and drilled a hole in the top so we could put our WiFi router on it (and hide all the various hubs inside the cupboard). We also drilled holes in the bottom for ventilation.5
great looking unitValue for money Queenbrought the various components to build the Besta unit and the stubbarp blue doors, nannarp legs and glass top which added a extra level of elegance. Very pleased with end product. Marked it down on assembly because a part was missing and having to make a return journey to store, and value for money for the individual cost of basic and essential items as internal shelves.4

Our take on wood

Wood is the material most commonly associated with IKEA furniture, and for good reasons. It’s renewable, recyclable, durable, ages beautifully and it is an important part of our Scandinavian design heritage. At IKEA we believe that sourced in responsible way, wood is a key change driver for climate mitigation. In 2012, we set a goal that by 2020 our wood would be from more sustainable sources. We are happy to announce that we have reached this goal and today, more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

Forests are critical for life on earth

Forests contribute to maintaining balance in the atmosphere, purify the air that we breathe and are part of the water cycle. They nourish wildlife biodiversity and provide homes for indigenous communities who depend on forests for their livelihoods. 90% of plant and animal species living on the planet need forests to survive. They provide sources of food, fuel, timber and many other ecosystem services that we rely upon. Sourcing approximately 19 million m3 of roundwood per year from some 50 countries, IKEA has a significant impact on the world’s forests and the timber industry and a huge responsibility to positively influence how wood is sourced. Responsible wood sourcing and forest management ensure that the needs of people dependent on forests are met, that businesses can work sustainably, that forest ecosystems are protected and biodiversity is enhanced.

100% wood from more sustainable sources

At IKEA, we work with strict industry standards to promote responsible forestry. We don’t allow any wood in our supply chain from forest areas that are illegal or contain high conservation values or from forest areas with social conflict. Before starting to work with IKEA, suppliers must demonstrate that they meet IKEA critical requirements on wood sourcing. IKEA requires all suppliers to source wood from more sustainable sources (FSC-certified or recycled wood). All suppliers are audited regularly and non-compliant suppliers are required to implement immediate corrective actions. By working together with our suppliers, we are proud to announce that we have reached our more sustainable sources goal, which we set out to achieve by 2020. Today more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030

As pressure on the world’s forests and the surrounding eco-systems increases due to unsustainable agriculture, the expansion of infrastructure and illegal logging, it is time to take an even more holistic approach to protect and support these important resources for generations to come. The IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030 set out to improve forest management, enhance biodiversity, mitigate climate change and support the rights and needs of people who depend on forests across the whole supply chain and drive innovation to use wood in even smarter ways. The agenda focuses on three key areas: • Making responsible forest management the norm across the world. • Halting deforestation and reforesting degraded landscapes. • Driving innovation to use wood in smarter ways by designing all products from the very beginning to be reused, refurbished, remanufactured, and eventually recycled.

We accomplish more by working together

For many years, IKEA has partnered with businesses, governments, social groups and non-governmental organisations to fight forest degradation and deforestation and increase the volume and availability of wood from responsibly managed forests both for our own supply chain and beyond. We are on a journey to improve global forest management and make responsible wood sourcing the industry standard, contributing to building resilient forest landscapes and improve biodiversity.

What is constructed board?

We use constructed boards when manufacturing many of our pieces of furniture, such as tables and wardrobes. They are light and resource-efficient, yet still stable and strong. Each board has a frame made of chipboard, fibreboard or solid wood, while the inside is a honeycomb filling structure made of mostly recycled paper, which is extra durable thanks to its special construction. The board is then covered with a protective paint, foil or veneer depending on the style wanted.
