Mistake - again Anonymous reviewerThis is my second IKEA sofabed and both have been a complete let down. We bought the first one in February 2020 and by summer 2024, the chaise was completely worn out and the spring support under the middle seat snapped. We then bought this bårlov sofa as a replacement, which is the same size but somehow oddly small and uncomfortable. However, this time the chaise section has given up after two years (delivered 17th July 2024). I realise that the chaise takes a lot of weight because you lift your feet up, unlike when sitting in a normal seat, but then reinforce that seat and use some higher quality foam. Ikea used to be decent (my grandma had the same sofa for ages) but the quality has gone down significantly - probably to combat riding prices. However, replacing a sofa every couple of years is actually more expensive than paying for quality... 2
Love it, great for our needs!Anonymous reviewerHad this sofa for a year now, so I thought I'd write a review. It is comfy, firm but this softened after 6 months. Yes, the pull out section detaches, but if placed against a coffee table, it wont go anywhere. We have the sofa set up as a double 24/7 for ultimate comfort, so never have to deal with the mechanism. I love the flat armrests. The material doesn't repel liquid unfortunately, but we cover the sofa with a throw anyway. The back cushions are too thick for sitting comfortably when it's in sofa mode, unsure why they are so plump. But we don't deal with this having it in bed mode. It has been a great addition to our lives. You're paying for the ottoman storage and sofa bed, not perfect luxurious comfort, so take this into consideration regarding your needs. If storage and sofa bed are your priorities, it's a great sofa.4
Throwing it away Anonymous reviewerDepth too short, uncomfortable, difficult to attach properly as a sofa bed, constantly tried reattaching the screws but the wood is weak. Avoid. 1
A great sofa-bed optionAnonymous reviewerI've had this sofa for about 3 months and despite what some reviews say, I find it comfortable. It's quite firm, so for some people it may not be what they're looking for, but once it's been sat on for a bit it softens up. The storage is perfect for toys, cushions, blankets and bedding. The pullout bed is great and spacious. Perfect for when you have 1 or 2 people staying over, and it's quite comfortable too. My only issue is the lack of neck support when using it as a couch, however, a couple of cushions can sort this out if you've got it against a wall. A very good sofa-bed option in my opinion. As always, it's best to try it out in the IKEA store before you buy it online. While it is a bit on the expensive side, it does serve two purposes and I prefer it to other similar options I tried in store.4
its not comfortable and it cant be assembled againAnonymous reviewerI bought it 2 years ago. Its not comfortable and it cant be assembled again if you try to assemble second time. Screws of long side of sofa doesnt match to back side of sofa2
Good and quality sofaAnonymous reviewerAmazing sofa with a nice double bed option5
Sofa bedAnonymous reviewerLove this and sooo easy to transform to a double bed. Storage is great.4
Good firm multipurpose sofaAnonymous reviewerLooks good, firm but comfortable. Squared armrests perfect for resting tea tray as well as excellent support to help get up.
The ottoman part is really useful to store spare pillows/ bedding ready for use as sofa- bed.
Building it was a bit fiddly but worth the challenge. Makes up into a very long double bed.
Only downside has been the smell of the construction materials which has taken a long time to dissipate. Think it is from the particle board? It is gradually getting better from being aired regularly with ottoman open and dishes of baking soda to absorb smell4
Not worth the price Anonymous reviewerSmall for normal sized people let alone big people.
Bed lock mechanism after couple months doesn’t work (turning it into a cheap sofa like any other).
Not water resistant/ proof either water or any liquid will seep into the fabric pretty quickly.2
Big mistakeAnonymous reviewerI bought this after trying it in store. It was very comfortable and was exactly what I needed. The sofa arrived without incident and was very straightforward to put together. However the sofa is extremely hard and uncomfortable to sit on. The seating is very shallow and the back cushions are uncomfortably firm. I am only 5’ and I find it to be a problem. You are forced to sit in a very upright position and not relaxed. The sofa has a very different feel to the one in store. I cannot imagine this will be bearable to sleep on. I certainly would not have bought this and feel I’ve wasted my money.2
PerfectAnonymous reviewerFor a cheap sofa this suits my needs perfectly, it comfortably seats 3 people or 4 at a push whilst not taking up to much space. Also it has both storage options and turns into a sofa bed, you can rarely have both. I havent had any wear or tear issues so far 12 months on. Perfect for a couple or individual living in a smaller home or flat.5
Hard to clean and shallow sitting spaceAnonymous reviewerSo I thought we were clever for choosing this sofa, but sitting on it is WAY shallower than I would've hoped. Have had this since July 2025 and after reading these reviews I have the same feeling. The sofa is quite dirty now and I just have water rings everywhere 😭 Im buying a cover for this sofa but it's quite annoying how cushions aren't removable either - so to get out the sofa bed I'll need to take the cover off. I would probably recommend the vimle instead tbh3
It is not worth the priceAnonymous reviewerI just used for 6 weeks. The seating space on this sofa bed is quite limited because the back cushions are too thick. I am a medium to large size woman, and I already find it not very comfortable to sit on for long periods.
In addition, the seat cushion on the chaise lounge seems to be made of a different material from the main sofa cushion. After about one month of use, the seat cushion of the sofa bed has started to sink slightly, making it noticeably thinner than the chaise lounge cushion.
Overall, the quality does not meet my expectations, and I don’t think it is worth the price.

Small seatsAnonymous reviewerThe depth of the seat is small which you feels uncomfortable .2
SofaAnonymous reviewerNot comfortable1
Started great, but quickly falling apartAnonymous reviewerWe didn’t have to use the sofa bed till now but the moment we did, the bed part that rolls out simply unhooked and detached itself. The cushions too became very soft only after a week of use with the bed. 2
Issue with sofa bedAnonymous reviewerI bought this sofa in December last year and used it recently as a sofa bed. As others have mentioned, there is an issue with the hinges on the left hand side when turned into a bed, and it detaches3
GreatAnonymous reviewerGreat sofa bed5
Nice design, but impossible to cleanAnonymous reviewerThe design of the sofa is good, very handy. But almost impossible to clean, a water spill leaves marks, spot cleaner leaves marks, just sitting on it appears to leave marks, it looks grubby even when clean. Really disappointing, must be a design flaw as I’ve had loads of ikea sofas in the past and had nothing like this before1
Barslov sofa bedAnonymous reviewerIt’s well worth the money great sofa very comfy5
