It appears as if it might be unassuming, yet takes centre stage. Simple in its design but well thought out and easy to assemble. It is a quality and very sturdy piece of kit. It definitely requires two to assemble, however, instructions clear and careful planning during the process can avoid unnecessary lifting of the very heavy worktop which you will only want to do once ! Fits two bar stools and shelving great for displaying cookery books and decorative cookware. Well done IKEA, great piece of functional furniture at a fair price.

I immediately treated the surface with Osmo food grade top oil, two coats, to protect it and make it durable, as I did my own oak work surfaces. It has been a game changer in the kitchen, taking the dead space in the middle of the kitchen and transforming it. It serves as a brunch/social area, extra large work surface for my husband who bakes, and just looks so handsome. We had been considering paying much more for something half as nice, so well done Ikea.

Peeling paint, very poor customer serviceAnonymous reviewerBlack paint started peeling after short exposure to water. Quite interesting as item is intended for kitchen use and manual mentions damp cloth cleaning. Ikea provides the worst customer service I've ever experienced and 10 year guarantee seems to be just a marketing move . Customer service dropped my chat and disconected on one of the phone calls. Last claim was dismissed as "damage" and I was also accused of lying as agent insisted it was "knocked" when photo clearly shows paint bubbling and peeling. Would not recommend both for quality and customer service.

Has transformed our kitchen and don’t know why we never had an island before. The wooden top is lovely and the space below is so practical but aesthetically pleasing and very good price for the extra work surface etc that it’s given us. When we get stools it will be perfect.
