IKEA UK announces its new 100% EV last mile delivery scheme for customers in Glasgow City Centre The pilot furthers IKEA’s commitment to achieving 100% zero emission home deliveries by 2025 This announcement comes just a few days before the start of the UN Climate Change Conference COP26 in Glasgow, of which IKEA is a proud Partner.

IKEA UK has today announced that it will make 100% zero-emission last mile deliveries to customers in Glasgow City Centre, furthering its commitment to reaching 100% zero-emissions deliveries worldwide by 2025. This announcement comes just a few days before the start of the UN Climate Change Conference COP26 in Glasgow, of which IKEA is a proud Partner.

From 1st November 2021, Glasgow City Centre customers will have their BILLY bookcases, POÄNG chairs and LACK tables delivered by a fleet of LDV EV80 fully electric vans, accounting for zero-emissions between dispatch and doorstep, a significant step in tackling the problem of urban air quality. This announcement builds on IKEA’s 2018 commitment for 100% of transports for customer deliveries and services via EV or another zero-emission solution by 2025.

As a member of EV100, a global initiative that brings together companies committed to accelerating the transition to electric vehicles (EVs) and making electric transport the new normal by 2030, this local announcement is IKEA UK’s first major step in the journey to achieving 100% last mile deliveries across its estate. Through the initiative, IKEA will re-assert its long-standing commitment to climate action, with science-based targets to support its ambitions in becoming circular and climate positive by 2030 and reaching net-zero emissions no later than 2050.

As well as ensuring emission-free deliveries to all Glasgow City Centre customers, IKEA UK also offers EV charging points in all stores where parking is provided, ensuring a convenient experience for customers who have made the switch to electric vehicles.

To reach our goal of becoming climate positive by 2030 we need to cut CO2 emissions in all stages of our value chain – even home deliveries. As such, we are delighted that Glasgow is the first major city centre in the UK to pilot having 100% EV last mile home deliveries for IKEA customers.

Jakob continued: "We want to set a good example and show that transitioning to EV is possible; this pilot certainly helps us do that and is a key milestone on our journey to achieve 100% zero emissions for all IKEA home deliveries by 2025."

Innes Ritchie, Store Manager at IKEA Glasgow, said: “With just a few days to go until COP26, we are delighted that our customers in Glasgow City Centre will now be able to receive their IKEA goods at home on an electric vehicle. Climate change is the defining issue of our time and I’m proud to know that this pilot will help us on our journey towards 100% zero emissions nationwide. By promoting the use of EVs for deliveries and customer travel to and from our stores, we want to improve the local environment around our stores and act as a good neighbour.”
