5 kitchen storage ideas for a home cook
Hey! I’m Susanne from IKEA Bristol. I love cooking and spend a lot of my ‘relaxing time’ in the kitchen. Organising your kitchen is not only therapeutic but also helps to reduce food waste and save precious space. I'll be sharing my tips on how to organise your kitchen - not only so that it's spick and span, but also to make it easier to find everything you need when cooking a delicious meal.
1. When organising your kitchen it’s good to think about how you move around the space and keep things close to hand. To make cooking at your hob a breeze, store your pots and pans underneath, your utensils laid out in an inner drawer, knives sat ready to go, and all of your oils and vinegars in an adjacent cupboard.
2. You may find it helpful to organise kitchen drawers into different categories; for example, try storing all your herbs and spices in one drawer, stood upright with labels on so you can easily find what you’re looking for. This will maximise space in a deeper drawer, so you are able to fit one or two more inner drawers on top.
3. By keeping all cans and jars together in one cupboard it makes it easy to see what you've got, which helps when making a shopping list and meal planning. Shelf inserts maximise the space as you can fit twice as much into the space. Using containers keeps open food fresher for longer - a great way to reduce food waste.
4. Drawers with airtight containers are perfect for keeping dried foods such as pasta, rice and popcorn fresh. Food storage that has clear lids and stacks together makes life so much easier. Not only do they keep the drawers organised and save space but they also make it easy to see how much pasta you have left.
5. Try labelling your containers to avoid confusion. With baking ingredients, specifying what flour or sugar it is becomes very important. Use different sized containers with interchangeable lids so that you can swap around depending on how much of each ingredient you have left, and what’s needed for the week ahead.
We love to see our customers get creative with our products. Go for it! But please note that altering or modifying IKEA products so they can no longer be re-sold or used for their original purpose, means the IKEA commercial guarantees and your right to return the products will be lost.
