Product support policy for smart products from IKEA

Smart products from IKEA are designed to be long-lasting. They are made of durable materials that are heavily tested in our testing labs. The longer you use your products, the better it is for the planet.

 

You can keep using your smart home products from IKEA, for as long as they last

We have designed them to function even without an internet connection or the need for a remote server. This means that you can keep using your smart products with your DIRIGERA hub or TRÅDFRI gateway paired with IKEA Home smart app / app 1, for as long as they last.

When your DIRIGERA hub or TRÅDFRI gateway is connected to the internet, the software of these smart products will be updated with new features. However, there is a practical limit to the capabilities of the electronics of the products and we want our products to function at their best. For that reason, we work with the following policy when it comes to providing digital updates and patches. 

DIRIGERA hub and TRÅDFRI gateway 

We’re experiencing supply issues, unfortunately, our TRÅDFRI gateway is currently unavailable in-store, but we are working hard to introduce a new gateway as soon as possible, introducing DIRIGERA. 

We will offer support for a minimum of three years after purchase, to ensure the hub / gateway:

  • Works with the IKEA Home smart app / app 1.
  • Gets security updates.
  • Gets updates to ensure compatibility with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. 

 

Smart products from IKEA (including SYMFONISK speakers) 

We will offer support on smart products from IKEA for at least five years after purchase, if paired with DIRIGERA hub or TRÅDFRI gateway to ensure that your smart products from IKEA

  • Works with applicable IKEA Home smart app.
  • Gets security updates.

What are products from IKEA marked with the label 'Works with IKEA Home smart'?

These are smart products from IKEA that can be controlled with applicable app if paired with DIRIGERA hub or TRÅDFRI gateway. The current range of smart home products from IKEA can be seen here.

Will my smart products still work after the end of support? 

Yes! You can continue to use your smart products from IKEA even after the end of our software support. For example, you will still be able to turn off and on your lights, take your blinds up and down and use hub / gateway on your local network even without an internet connection.

IKEA will support you via our Customer Support Centers and with information on ikea.com in case you have questions or need support with your smart products from us.

How does DIRIGERA hub and TRÅDFRI gateway work?

  • The DIRIGERA hub and TRÅDFRI gateway are designed to be connected to the internet. They receive software updates directly from IKEA when connected to a router with internet access.
  • IKEA intends to continue to support DIRIGERA hub and TRÅDFRI gateway with required security updates as well as maintaining compatibility with our online services and the latest version of our IKEA Home smart app /app 1 for a minimum total of three years from the date of your purchase.
  • After these dates, IKEA may choose to continue to provide software updates and/or compatibility with online services and/or mobile applications. 

How do smart products with our label “Works with IKEA Home smart” (including SYMFONISK speakers) get updates? 

  • These smart products can receive software updates directly from IKEA, when paired with DIRGERA hub or TRÅDFRI Gateway with internet access and with the IKEA Home smart app / app 1. An exception is SYMFONISK speakers which receive updates directly from Sonos.
  • We will offer support on these smart products for at least five years after purchase. If you have a TRÅDFRI gateway and your smart products no longer work with it, you can use them with your remote controls and if you wish switch to DIRIGERA hub.
