With the IKEA Interior Design Service, you get a comprehensive interior design plan for your home or business. Our interior designers accompany you from the initial idea to the finished planning and work with you to develop a concept that suits your style, requirements and budget. The planning can take place online or in an IKEA store and also includes support with ordering and implementation if desired.

How the Interior Design Service works

The first step is a free get-to-know-you and consultation. You will talk to one of our interior designers about your wishes, requirements and goals. Together you will discuss the space, the desired style, the use, your budget and the planned time frame.

How to prepare for the appointment

For optimal planning, some information in advance will help:
  • Photos of the rooms
  • Floor plans or room dimensions
  • Inspirations, style ideas or mood boards
  • Information about your budget
  • Wishes for colours, materials and functions
If no dimensions or floor plans are yet available, these can often be submitted later or supplemented by measurements.
For online appointments, IKEA recommends using Google Chrome so that all functions can be used smoothly.

What happens during the planning phase?

After the initial consultation, our interior designers develop an individual furnishing concept. The room function, style, colours, materials, lighting and product selection are coordinated with each other.
Planning may include, for example:

This is how an online appointment works

After booking, you will receive an access link by email. Participation is possible via computer, tablet or smartphone.
During the appointment:
  • Does the interior designer share the screen
  • Is the planning developed together in real time
  • Changes can be discussed directly
  • Don't need your own camera
This way you can follow the planning live and actively shape it.

Planning in the IKEA store

Alternatively, you can attend the appointments on site. Simply report to the relevant department at the agreed time. There you will be personally picked up by our experts.
The advantage on site:
  • Materials can be viewed directly
  • Colours and surfaces can be compared
  • Furniture and furnishing solutions can be experienced directly
  • The order can be completed directly if desired

Ordering and Implementation

After the approval of your planning, you will receive a complete shopping list. If you wish, we can also accompany you with the order and support you with suitable services for delivery, installation or other furnishing solutions.

How far in advance should you plan?

For private and business customers, IKEA recommends that you usually book the Interior Design Service no more than three months before the planned implementation. For larger corporate projects, a lead time of up to twelve months can be useful. If a lighting concept is to serve as the basis for electrical installations, planning is recommended about six weeks before the cable is laid.

Save planning and use it later

With a personal IKEA profile you can save plans and wish lists and call them up again at any time. The plans are stored on IKEA servers and can also be opened internationally. You should note that assortments and product availability may differ depending on the country.
