How to choose and place rugs in the living room

The secret to a cozy living room? Start with the carpet.

The carpet in the living room is one of the most important elements in the home - except perhaps for the doormat. A well-chosen carpet does much more than look nice. It brings warmth and atmosphere to the room, muffles noise from footsteps and helps retain heat. In other words, it is a silent hero in your interior.

Make sure the rug is at least as wide as your sofa. Ideally, the entire sofa, including the coffee table, will fit on the carpet. Do you have a large living room? Then choose a carpet of 200×300 cm. Do you have less space? Then 170×240 cm will do, as long as sofa and coffee table fit on it.

With a lounge area on the side, you need a larger carpet. Make sure the rug extends at least 60-70 cm beyond the chaiselongue, so that the entire seating area is on the rug.

Rugs for corner sofas

Large corner sofas require large rugs. Make sure that at least the inside corner with coffee table is completely covered. A round carpet is also possible, as long as that part is fully placed on the carpet.
