Essential tips for a good start with your baby

Babies are designed brilliantly. Better than anything a company could make. The best we can do is design things that work perfectly for babies, and help them grow up safely and naturally. Many companies claim to be baby experts. IKEA's designers and product developers have a different perspective: a baby is part of the family, and if everyone taking care of the baby feels good, the baby will feel good too. It's not just about your baby - it's about you and the baby. Together.

Four good ideas: Blackout curtains or blinds allow you to make your baby's room dark when needed. But also provide a night light so you have a soft glowing option when needed. A feeding pillow, such as the LEN pillow, makes breastfeeding or bottle feeding easier and more comfortable. Stock up on washcloths. Babies burp a lot.

Everything will be alright

Anyone caring for a baby gets a mountain of advice thrown at them. The deeper you dig, the more contradictory it seems to become. This could make you very stressed, which will not benefit your baby at all. A good night's sleep does wonders. Relax, trust your instincts, remember it's all just advice and just make sure you have the basics with you.

Time to decorate your first nursery

If you like everything to match beautifully, we make it extra easy for you with these sets for every style.

Natural baby zone

Babies are born with very thin skin, they breathe much more frequently than an adult, and they are highly sensitive to light and sound. All this together means they are a fragile package. Make your home as soft, calm and chemical-free as possible. You can be confident that everything in the IKEA collection for babies is designed with their safety in mind, with zero tolerance to harmful chemicals.

Made for the big steps

One thing is certain with babies: they are constantly changing. As a result, it can feel like a waste to buy things. You've just bought it, and your baby already doesn't need it anymore. IKEA products are designed with this fact in mind. From adjustable baby beds with removable sides to the SUNDVIK changing table that turns into a chest of drawers, you can adapt many products so your child can use them for longer.

Out of sight, out of the way

Now they are still small, but they will soon grow up! A children's wardrobe that grows with these changes works wonders.

Babies are the world's smallest explorers. IKEA products are therefore designed with built-in child safety, including our colourful storage units.

Music for your baby

In their first months, a baby's sight and hearing are still developing. Light and dark are more important than colour, and melody is more important than words. The movement of leaves, or a mobile above the cradle, hold a baby's visual attention, and a singing voice or a musical toy like the KLAPPA caterpillar makes them prick up their ears.
