Here we encounter fascinating animals such as cheetahs, giraffes, meerkats and chimpanzees as both soft toys and in illustrations. Now we can safely explore the savannah and learn about all the animals that live here without disturbing their fragile habitat. “In collaboration with illustrator Anna Lagerström and the Swedish wildlife conservatory, Nordens Ark, the collection aims to inspire play but also to teach children more about endangered animals,” says product developer Anna Edlundh. “With the help of Nordens Ark, we can now ensure our soft toys and illustrations are even closer to reality.” “It’s hard to make educational materials without texts. But I really think we managed to do it with the SANDLÖPARE activity book. Here, you can learn the wingspan of the birds and what paw print goes with what animal,” says Jorge Omar Santoyo Henaine, product developer.
Make the room come alive
With small efforts the savannah can come alive in the home. By switching the bed linen, adding a stool cover or attaching decoration stickers to walls and bedposts the children’s room can transform into an animal kingdom.

Raising awareness about endangered species
IKEA collaborates with Nordens Ark, a non-profit foundation that focuses on nature conservation, conservation breeding and release, research and education. The collaboration has given us a deeper understanding of the efforts required to protect wild animals. We support the foundation by spreading knowledge about endangered species to children and adults. Together with Nordens Ark, we continue to develop products that evoke curiosity about our planet and its amazing nature and wildlife.

“With the SANDLÖPARE collection, I wanted to create an exciting, colourful world where children decide the play and stories by using their imagination and spontaneity, instead of being served something ready-made. Hide and seek was a starting point, so some design details are deliberately hidden and there is always more to discover, explore and interact with. Children are not just spectators – they’re explorers and heroes on their own savannah adventure."
