Not sure if the plant needs water? Try the thumb test: If the soil in the pot sticks to your thumb, you don't need to water. Remember that plants need more water in summer than in winter.

In general, plants do not need to be repotted the first year. You can even put a nursey pot in an outdoor pot in a style you choose. As your plant grows, it will need a little more space.

Most plants receive adequate fertilizer in the first 1-3 months after purchase. If necessary, fertilize your plants during their peak growth cycle, usually spring to summer. Fertilize less frequently during the dormant period, usually winter.

Houseplants need regular cleaning. Removing the dust from the leaves gives the plant as much light as possible, and that pays off in a lush appearance. A damp cloth for wide leaves works best.

Each plant has different sunlight requirements; some like direct light, others semi-shade. You can find specific requirements on each plant's label or in our handy plant catalog.
