Not for a kitchenWe bought that countertop for our new kitchen and if I'm so happy with my new ikea cabinets, the countertop is a disaster! It looked very nice when we opened the box. But we found out it was really hard to cut properly and the quality is so poor that I have scratches all over just for the installation despite all the precautions we took. I have a beautiful kitchen with an awful countertop. I'm really disappointed on ikea quality for that one!

Nice if you don’t need to cut them to sizeIf you’re buying these to use them as one piece, they’re fine. However we bought two countertops to be cut to size and fit into our kitchen. Because the middle is particle board ikea provides edging strips to cover the cut edges. There were a couple problems here - 1) the edging strips were broken upon arrival and ikea can’t replace them (I was on the phone for over two hours and they said maybe we could get them but wouldn’t know for two weeks - after which they couldn’t get them....) 2) we tried to use the edging strips we had available and the minute they were wiped down with a slightly damp cloth they warped and cracked - so very poor quality. We ended up buying walnut veneer edging strips that come in a tape form that you iron on - the quality and ease of use is better, but the pattern and color don’t match so that stinks.
Overall I wish we would’ve spent more and gotten solid walnut, but if you don’t need to cut these they’re fine (also, Ikea has the absolute worst customer service I’ve ever experienced... our original order was a few weeks late and was missing items when it arrived. The delivery driver immediately said items were missing and we’d have to contact ikea to have them sent, despite the fact they obviously knew they were missing. To get ahold of someone took hours and then it was another 3 weeks before our missing items arrived...)

Work neededFor the price it's OK I thought it was solid countertop and not filled with MDF . Cutting it was a little difficult because it's not a solid but your block.

Great Countertop that We Used for a DeskWe adapted this for a desktop and it worked out brilliantly. It's easy to clean, light enough to move easily and will last.

Good to know
The countertop has a ⅛" top layer of solid walnut over particleboard. The countertop is pre-treated with hard wax oil. No other treatment is necessary until the surface starts to wear. FIXA diffusion barrier should be mounted to the underside of the countertop above a dishwasher for added protection against moisture. Not suitable for use in damp rooms.
When the surface of the countertop starts to wear or becomes dry, treat it with wood treatment oil. Wipe clean with a soft cloth dampened with water and a mild dish detergent or soap, if necessary. Wipe dry with a clean cloth. Light stains can be removed with a damp sponge in water or a mild soapy solution, or with a fine sandpaper.
