As part of our commitment to renewable energy, we are currently installing electric vehicle rapid charging points across all of our UK stores to complement the existing normal (or slow charge) points.

We are working with our sustainability partners, car manufacturer Nissan and green energy provider Ecotricity, to introduce the dedicated rapid charging points in all of our car parks so customers can confidently charge their vehicles while shopping in store.

Developed by Nissan, the rapid charger units can recharge an electric vehicle, such as the 100% electric Nissan LEAF, from empty to 80% full in just thirty minutes and IKEA will be the first major retailer in the UK to make them available to its customers.

At IKEA we believe in supporting our customers to travel to our stores in more sustainable ways. IKEA and Ecotricity have been working together for five years, with Ecotricity owning and running electric vehicle charging points for free in IKEA car parks across the country. We believe the partnership has encouraged the take-up of electric cars in the UK.

We understand that for Ecotricity to continue to invest in Electric Vehicle Charging technology and infrastructure, they have made the decision to start charging all customers for the electricity used at their charging points across the country, including those located on IKEA sites. We’re currently in the process of investigating with Ecotricity how we can best support our electric vehicle driving customers going forward. We’ll update you as soon as we have something further to share.
