Only for paintAnonymous reviewerMost panels (top, side panel and shelves) had 35mm repair holes in them spoiling the raw wood look (obviously IKEA are now using a very low grade wood panel) - so I'd only recommend if you are planning on painting them.

PoorAnonymous reviewerI have previously purchased and liked the ivar cabinet however this time I naively made the cabinet then painted it all without fitting the doors. Only when I went to fit the doors did I find that it was impossible to close them, despite all of the adjustments possible made, when measuring the doors they are a cm bigger than the unit so there is no possible way they would fit and shut properly. Really disappointed as this was a gift for my son’s birthday and now I’ve painted it. I essentially have a cheap looking bookcase that I could have got from fb marketplace for a tenth of the price

Unsafe productAnonymous reviewerI am utterly shocked by this product as I have never felt an IKEA product is unsafe before. But you can verify yourself: look at pages 11-13 where you insert this cabinet in to the shelf and you will see there is NOTHING securing the rear of the cabinet to the rear brackets or rear of the shelf. Even if you secure the front as instructed the smallest wobble can cause the rear of the cabinet to fall off the bracket. This is not me being dense, you can see for yourself there are no steps in the assembly to secure the rear of the cabinet to the shelves. To make matters worse, the only screws that are securing the cabinet at the front top & bottom are smaller than the holes in the cabinet so once they are screwed in they are still unsecure and loose. Perhaps this is less of a problem if you have other shelves already installed so the shelves are held in place but that is not a necessary step nor shown in instructions. This product is so badly designed and so unsafe it is beyond belief.
Wood is full of holes - can we please have a response about this!Anonymous reviewerPurchased and assembled a full Ivar unit, with cabinet - only to find (as others have mentioned) that the wood panels for the cabinet were full of filled circular holes, which ruined the aesthetic of the cabinet. None of the Ivar unit shelves are affected, just the cabinet. I returned the cabinet, to find the next one had the same issue - staff were very friendly and helpful, but unable to advise why the wood was of such bad quality. Sadly, no one was willing to escalate this as a quality control issue when I was in store.
Note, the doors were fine, so it's clear that some good pieces of wood can at least be found for the front parts of the unit...but the sides and insides look bad. Can we please get a response from the IKEA team, this is not what I'd expect from you, and it's sub-par quality. I love these units, so don't want to return all the other Ivar items. Can anyone @IKEA help/advise/comment? I really want to find a good cabinet to fit.
Circles all over the cabinetAnonymous reviewerBizarrely, I have tried twice to purchase the Ivar cabinet and both times it looks like tons of holes have been filled in by these wooden circles. It is very visible and on all sides of the cabinet. I asked for are replacement and it had the same issue. I asked again for a cabinet... they cannot guarantee this one won't have these weird circles apparently. It is very annoying.
Worst product I've had from ikea.Anonymous reviewerThis was horrible to put together, it absorbs whatever finish you put on it and becomes bumby no matter how many times you sand and refinish and if you use the legs it becomes top heavy and falls over so NEEDS to be secured to the wall. Didn't find this out until AFTER I'd nailed the back onto the unit so I then had to make a hole in the back of the unit to allow the wallbracket to be fixed to the unit. Would not recommend this unit!

Easy to assemble with movable shelving and a really reasonable price. They’re strong and hold a lot too. Great product that I would strongly recommend.
Poor quality, poor customer serviceAnonymous reviewerThe holes for the wooden pegs were not in the correct position making assembly impossible.
A stressful hour and a half was spent on live chat which went nowhere. Eventually through email I was offered 15% damage discount which I refused as I didn't feel that reflected the poor quality, time and petrol to drive to the store to buy the item, and cost and time of applying wood sealer etc. I was then told because I had applied sealant the 'damage discount warranty' was void!! What a joke. How can Ikea sell unfinished wood items and not expect the customer to seal or paint before assembling. Really poor quality for the price. Also issue with folding table bought at the same time.
