Great little solutionsStacieEach basket of the set hangs at a different length, so they can be hung on the same hook if necessary. I hang them on hooks in my mudroom to hold dog treats and waste bags. They are small enough to fit just about anywhere, but sufficiently functional. Downside is they may not be as sturdy as other baskets, but at this price, I can buy another set if necessary.4
Let’s tolkning ;)SandyIt’s hanging on my coat rack in the entryway and it looks very nice. Keeps me from scattering my belongs around. I put gloves, scarves and/or my wallet in them. Nothing heavy. Personally I think it would not work well for heavier items, stick to lightweight.5

Story

Invite nature into your home

When we developed TOLKNING, we worked with experienced artisans. The result is a decorative and multi-functional series of natural fiber products that carry warmth, a unique expression, and lots of character.

Simi Gauba and Kristin Pfannenschmidt are two of our product developers who are based in Vietnam and work a lot with natural fibers. “When we created TOLKNING, we got help from skilled artisans who know the strengths and weaknesses of the material,” says Simi. “Without them, we wouldn’t be able to offer these products to our customers.”

Form and function hand in hand

When each natural fiber is treated right, it can be transformed into almost anything. “We can create products that are as beautiful as they are functional. It’s impossible to manufacture two that look exactly the same, since every natural fiber shifts in color and texture. On the other hand, customers get something unique with lots of character,” says Kristin.

Cooperation between man and nature

Simi says that working with natural fibers can be challenging, but that is also a part of the charm. “The TOLKNING series reflects a heritage that is worth preserving – man and nature together and skills passed on from generation to generation. I think that’s one of the reasons why these kinds of products are so loved. They have a soul and warmth that many people like – perfect if you want to add genuine materials and natural beauty to your home.”

What is bamboo?

Strong, flexible and one of the world's fastest growing plants – bamboo has many uses that make it an excellent renewable material. It’s a type of grass and usually grows without the need for fertilizers or irrigation. After being harvested, it grows new shoots that are ready for harvesting after 4-6 years. At IKEA, we use bamboo for items like furniture, bathroom decor, baskets and lamps – and we are constantly exploring more areas of use for this versatile material.

“My idea with the TOLKNING series was to create sustainable products made from natural fibers that could be used in different ways and in several places throughout the home. I started with my Scandinavian heritage and, in combination with the knowhow and professional skills of craftspeople, the unique products took shape – made by people and for people. I hope they will be useful, bring you joy and make you feel proud about making a conscious choice."
