Extremely Disappointing – Chair Broke Under Normal Use and NO WARRANTYBI had an embarrassing experience when this chair split apart as my wife, who weighs barely 120 lbs, sat on it in front of guests. To make matters worse, after contacting IKEA support, I learned these chairs have no warranty. Ikea only offers an apology. This is unacceptable for a product that should handle basic use. Definitely not recommended.
Dont purchase this chair. cracked in the middleYunaI have been using this chair for more than a few years. Till today, i just was sitting on it as usual, i heard some crazy cracking sound, i looked, the chair was split/ crack in half in the middle of the sitting area. I am 120lbs. I was like i didnt pay this cheap… i have 3 more of this chair.. i am afraid that these will crack as welll….i came here to see regarding warranty, then found out that others are having same issue as me! This is horrible. Please do something about this Ikea. Thank you
CrackedFrankIt cracked about 3 inches from the front edge. You could get hurt if you continue to sit on it.
It will be danger if you didn't notice the crack and sitting on it.
Unless you want to be cut yourself in halfLawrenceWhile I was siting on the chair ( I am 205lbs) during dinner one night, it decided to snap in half. Luckily I didn't fell. Otherwise the way it snap in half could cut my body in half. BTW they do not have any warranty on the chair.
All chairs split after a few yearsEdwinaThese are expensive chairs that should last We had three and they all split. We love ikea but we’ve also wasted a lot of money buying things that don’t hold up well.
Cracked chairChee HueiOur 9-year-old is in love with the sleek design of the Tobias chair and has received it as a housewarming present from our family friend. She is very happy with the chair, but the happiness was short-lived. After three months of usage, a huge crack through the middle suddenly appeared while she is seating on it. She weighs only 30 kg (66 lbs). As per many previous reviews, this is a common problem for this chair. If the chair is unable to accommodate the weight of a young child, IKEA should definitely look into the design issues for this chair.
beautiful and sturdyTianaIm only giving 4 stars because of the other reviews re the cracking - I want to say the chair seems very sturdy and well made very beautiful , Im just afraid it will crack over time and ikea does not stand behind products ( my chairs are only a few days old but from other numerous reviews we will have an issue later on )
beautiful but breaksAlbertoI really like these chairs and have had them for a while. They are comfortable and stylish. My main issue is that 2 of my 4 chairs cracked in the middle-front, and they pinch me. IKEA should review the design and add support to the front or reinforce the front edge.
Also, it's difficult to get the round disks to fit and they are slightly elevated, not level with the chair. Clothes get stuck from time to time, a bit annoying.
Chairs crackLindseyAlthough I love these chairs for ease of wiping down I bought 4 of these for our kitchen and 3 of 4 cracked in the exact same spot. Looking online this seems to be a consistent problem. I’m 120lbs never in my wildest dreams would I think by sitting on a chair it would break.

Not safe!CynthiaI love how they look but 3 out of my 4 chairs broke right in the middle. I’m 140 pounds and I got my skin pinched, another one cracked while my kid was playing on his iPad, he is about 90 pounds.
The Tobias Chair CracksDeniceMy chair cracked down the middle and I weigh 165 lbs. This is a known issue with these chairs. IKEA apologizes for this issue but chooses to do nothing about it. These chairs are dangerous.
Chairs all cracked within 1 yearLaurieI purchased the clear Tobias chairs and had them delivered. We were quite upset when they all began cracking. Now we rarely use them for fear of injury.
Slick, clean and works across themes and stylesTroyI am enjoying this simple but elegant chair. It has paired beautifully with a vintage corner desk I found, allowing the details of the desk to shine through its transparent finish even when the chair is pushed in. It's also comfortable, having no arms and a broad seat, I can to sit cross legged when working for longer hours. Big thumbs up!
