Children feel special and important when they can do what adults do. That's why we created a miniature children’s version of our beloved STRANDMON armchair. Now you can sit and relax together - side by side.
Having your very own armchair in the right size is more important than adults may think. It makes your child feel big and more involved, which helps them to understand how they fit in their surroundings.
This is where your child can lean back on the comfortable backrest for a moment and relax. Maybe they’ll put their feet up and read a good book or hug the soft armrests when a film gets scary. Just what we all need after a day on the go.
Children are smaller and don’t sit like us adults. They like to move around and can suddenly transform the armchair into a desolate island or a rocketship. That’s why we made a attached seat instead of a loose cushion like in the adult version.
We know that an armchair is used in many different ways. That’s why the fabric is extra durable and the legs are positioned so that the armchair is very stable.
Very comfortable chairJason E.Very comfortable chair especially if you purchase with foot rester. Assembly had one tricky part where one bolt did not fit perfectly into pre cut hole so I had to use a lot of force in which was not very pleasant.5

Cutest chairKatieI love these chairs! I have 4 year old twins and bought two of these. The size is perfect for them and should fit them for a few years. The assembly was a little difficult but took less than 30 minutes to put together. I was worried my kids would tip it over but it’s very sturdy.5
My son had me buyTAMMYMy son had me buy this for his 1 year old who loves climbing into his own chair. This chair is very sturdy even when he stands instead of sitting. It is small enough for him to get on but large enough to last for several years.5

He loves itThankMeNeverBought this for my 2 year old about 3 weeks ago to go with the Strandmon chair I bought for my wife as he loves to always sit near his mother. He likes it, when it’s movie time he plops right in and watches away he says it’s very cool and just like mommies.5
Sturdy!LeisMomWe saw this chair and immediately wanted it for our 1 year old. Like all things Ikea, were a little skeptical at first with durability but this is by far the most sturdy piece of furniture we have ever purchased from Ikea. My daughter loves it and can get in and out with ease.5

A small armchair to feel big in
Are you familiar with STRANDMON armchair? This is the children’s version, based on children's sizes, how they sit – and how they don't sit when the armchair suddenly transforms into a desert island or space rocket. Because when speaking to experts, we learned that having one's own, safe and comfortable armchair in the right size is more important than we may think.
Imagining that you are driving a car, working at the office, cooking food… "To mimic adults is a way for children to recreate the things they have experienced so that they can understand the world around them and how they fit in it," says Barbie Clarke, a child psychologist who has researched children and their development. With this insight, we wondered which armchair could be appreciated by children if the size was adapted.
Adapted for small bodies
The choice fell on STRANDMON wing chair. "It's timeless and cozy and has an immersive design, kind of like sitting in a protective hug," explains Nicolas Cortolezzi who was part of the development team. But it is not just about shrinking the size. "Children do not have the same proportions as adults and they don't sit like we do. They move around and like to put their feet up, which is why we made a fixed seat instead of having a loose cushion." The team worked with stability to make the armchair safe. Among other things, the legs where positioned differently for a center of gravity adapted to how children use chairs. As for the fabric ─ we know the durability required when the armchair is sometimes used as a desert island or the world's highest mountain.
Making children feel accepted
All in all, it is about children being accepted and seen as the little humans they are. "If children are allowed to sit in a chair in their own size, they feel more involved in their surroundings,” says Barbie. “It really is essential for them."
What is foam?
Foam is excellent as upholstery in seating and mattresses since it provides good comfort and can relieve pressure by moulding to the body. Depending on the properties and feel you’re looking for, there are several qualities to choose from, like high-resilience foam and memory foam. The raw material for foam was previously based entirely on virgin fossil materials. But today, together with our suppliers, we’ve begun developing a material that is renewable and recycled.
