Product details

A statement piece for your dining area with fine details like solid wood edges, breadboard ends with cross-grain pattern and smooth, rounded corners.

Each table is unique, with varying grain patterns and natural color shifts that are part of the charm of wood.

The round shape of the table makes it great for socializing since everyone can see each other.

Brown-stained in layers and clear lacquered for protection and wear resistance. The tabletop is made with extra thick veneer so you can enjoy gatherings with less worries about stains and wear.

Self-storing butterfly extension leaf. The hidden leaf easily extends seating from 4 to 6 in seconds, with only one pair of hands needed.

Designed for a perfect match with SKANSNÄS chairs. LUSTEBO and LILLÅNÄS chairs, or GRÖNSTA chair with armrests are also good matches with different style expressions.

Disappointing QualityLawrenceFor a table nearly $900 after tax, I expected higher quality materials. Came with misaligned screws so I can't even use the middle leaf and the finish feels cheap. Dents in the tabletop and cracked wood beams. Where is the solid wood in something this expensive?3
Super nice to the touch (matte with a little graininess)ClaireWe had been admiring this table for ages before finally buying it. It is as pretty easy to put together (make sure to REALLY pay attention to the different holes in the instruction manual) The table feels elegant and secure with the connecting hatch5
LovelyJaniceIt's perfect!!! Just what I wanted.5
Great for a small dining roomGeneI think it’s good looking and sturdy table, works good in our small dining room, and when we have guests over, we can extend it to make more room.5
SturdyAngelThis table is BEAUTIFUL and very sturdy. I absolutely love it. I took my time putting it together and every piece fit like a glove.5
Perfect kitchen nook tableBrianVery solid table w drop leaves if needed perfect fit in our kitchen nook5
SkansnasEddieGreat value. All solid. 5
Pretty tableAnonymous reviewerThe table is comfortable in size for a breakfast nook or small dining room. With the ability to extend into an oval. Building it does take two people.5
It’s beautiful MarjorieThe table was easy to put together. I love how the leaf pots out. It looks great in my kitchen. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a smaller table. 5
Beautiful tableGraceI purchase just this table like a month ago my son-in-law put it back together. The table is beautiful and I really like it.5
Color not as seenAnonymous reviewerThe color of table top and legs are not the same. What you can see from the pics are what you will get for the legs but the top has more red and warm tones. The extension board and the top also have obviously different patterns. 4
great table- very clever leaf storageDionnaWe've only had it a month, but so far, so good! Only question is the clips underneath are plastic and not sure how they'll hold up over time, but this is a a very smart table. Leaf storage mechanism is very cool.5
Beautiful and sturdy Anonymous reviewerLove this table. Might be sensitive to dents and scratches 5
Manufacturing DefectsBenLove the design, hate the build execution. Clear manufacturing defects make it impossible to complete the build after step 14, which makes the center leaf extendable and self-storing. Two of the wooden crossbars are too long, and the holes drilled for the metal posts that allow it to slide and self-store are not in the correct positions. Again, the design is great, but the execution is sloppy. The self-storing center extension does NOT self-store.2
Looks great, works greatHectorConvenient and expandable, surface seems durable so far5

Accessories for SKANSNÄS

SKANSNÄS Extendable table, brown beech/veneer, 45 1/4/66 7/8 "

A timeless dining experience

After having designed and produced furniture for more than 70 years, we have some goodies in our archive that can serve as inspiration for new furniture. Sure, everything wasn’t better in the past, especially not comfort and flexibility, so it’s important to base the work on our needs today, just like we have done with the SKANSNÄS series.

The 1950s and 60s were a real golden age in Scandinavian design history. The lines became cleaner and the materials gave character. In our archive, Designer Mikael Axelsson found a real treasure chest of inspiration. “Typical of that time are generous chairs with wide backrests without visible fittings or screws,” tells Mikael. “But they were sold ready-assembled, and the flat pack hadn’t had its breakthrough yet.” Today, our smart wooden plug, the wedge dowel, means you can easily assemble the SKANSNÄS chair. And the plug is invisible from the outside!”

A chair to lean back in

Although many of the chairs in the archive were really comfortable, we wanted to achieve even better comfort. Through trial and error, Mikael and the team searched for the most perfect angle of the backrest and created a seat that is really comfortable to sit on for a long time. “We chose paper twine for the seat since it's strong and gives a pleasant suspension when you sit on it.”

For small and large dinner parties

The SKANSNÄS series is made of beech, a hard and durable wood with beautiful graining – just like many of the furniture in the design archive. But, today most of us put higher demands on flexibility. The tables have a so-called butterfly extension. When the house is full of guests, you can easily unfold it and extend the table in a matter of seconds. “SKANSNÄS tables and chairs are made so you can lean back and enjoy small and large dinner parties for many years.” And who knows, maybe they will also become treasures in the archive that inspire future designers.

Designer thoughts

Designer thoughts

"In the work with SKANSNÄS, I did a deep dive into our IKEA archive and drew inspiration from tables and chairs from the 1950s and 60s, which was a golden age for Scandinavian design. I like the simple and soft shapes and the natural materials they used. Materials that are beautiful from the start and develop a nice patina over time. I brought all of that with me, but I also wanted to add new knowledge about ergonomics and techniques to make furniture that suits our time."
