Only last 1 seasonKimOur umbrella also failed at the string use to crank the umbrella open and close. We used it for 1 summer and it broke after we set it up for the second season. We also stored it over the winter in the garage so it wasn't weathered. After setting it up for the second summer, it snapped closed after the flimsy string failed after about 1 week used. We brought it in at exactly 365 day to return and was told that it was not returnable due to it being used. And we were also told that they did not have anyone complaints about the failed mechanism of this umbrella ever. Which I find unbelievable, please see other review. I also asked if I can put in the complaint for this specific product then since noone did, and the manager said no. And would not direct us to a way to do that. No wonder there is no complaints if their employees are not writing down/record/document the complaints. For how expensive it is, it is not worth for only one season use.
Poor designFrancesI purchased this umbrella eight months ago(August 2024) and it broke. The mechanism used to keep the umbrella upright is twine-like dental floss with a vinyl covering. I returned it to Ikea because it was expensive for an umbrella, expecting to get some type of store credit.
Instead, I was told that it was my fault for over tightening. I was told that " no one else in the whole United States has returned this for a broken hanging twine ". A statement I found hard to believe due to the products weak mechanism.
Nevertheless, I am completely disappointed in Ikea in the way this was handled. I've been shopping there for decades and this is the first thing I have returned and it definitely wasn't due to my over tightening. I live in Southern California and I believe that the umbrella is not built for mostly sunny weather.
Easy assembly MicheleThis was easy to assemble. You will need two people to stand it up. You will want to purchase the sand bags and fill them before putting the umbrella upright.
