Elevating Modular DeskKenichiOur Grandson outgrew his first nursery desk and needed an adjustable height desk and chair. Majority of adjustable desks/chairs for children looks like toys and will have to be replaced again. I visited Ikea showroom in New Haven,CT and found this Relatera crank up desk to be very sturdy, made of thick gauge steel stand, and easy to raise/lower as necessary. This stand is very sturdy and can accommodate desk top sized 900mm (35-3/8") or 1170mm(46-1/8"). I chose the 900mm.
Set up was straight forward except Instruction did not differentiate in picture Size of desktop 900mm or 1170mm so I bolted two sections wrong. It would help to put the desktop Dimensions on the picture Diagram.
As my grandson matures and if he needs a bigger desk, he can simply put a bigger desktop board.
Perhaps Ikea can make a light gray colored Relatera System in the future.
RELATERA DeskDianeThe RELATERA desk is perfect! It’s sturdy, has an adjustable height, and the desk too is large enough to write and draw at. The drawer is available also, and fits perfectly under the desk.
Perfect desk for growing kidsEWe purchased the Relatera desk for our 2nd grade kid. We have it adjusted to the lowest height, along with an adjustable height chair. It fits her perfectly. The desk will be able to rise (using the hand crank) as she grows. The desk top size (35 3/8" x 23 5/8") is good for now (smaller than most other IKEA desks). We paired with a clamp on desk lamp to save space on top.
Assembly was not too bad, but the frame/legs were a bit heavier than I expected (because of the height adjusting legs). I was still able to assemble it by myself. I gently used a cordless drill to do most of the work and hand tightened all of the screws to finish. It feels solid.
Only 3 minor issues: 1) the crank handle that is supposed to tuck in is a little finicky to tuck, 2) the under desk cable management tray is small/thin. I had to buy a slim power strip to fit in it, 3) there are 3 holes on the desk top for cable management. The cover inserts are not very snug and could be better quality with a hole.
Great desk, instructions could be betterJonathanEverything is solid about this minimal, space saving, stand up desk. The only issue for me is the instructions. Had to take stuff apart 3 times because the instructions were not entirely clear in which direction some parts were to be installed. Stripped a nut in the process.

Surprisingly GoodGreyI searched a bit for an adjustable-height desk, including at Ikea. I liked the idea of mechanical raise/lower mechanism. Assembly was easy and I discovered a surprise feature, namely that you can assemble the crank on one side or the other (it's ambidextrous). I wish I had known the drawer was an option (I purchased it later). Very nice desk.
