Great chairSandraPerfect for a small apartment. 5
Reasonable but very basicDonnaReasonable price. Very basic and light in weight. We are small in stature so it's fine for us but not for someone taller or heavier. Finish is very light - mistakenly thought it was unfinished.3
Doubting Dowel Rods Bernie Pinntorp chairs are pretty sturdy, however, the holes for the wooden dowel rods are a bit too small to allow for simple insertion of the dowel rods without pounding them in. Also the bottom of the legs are missing floor protectors. Pinntorp tables seem to come equipped with the floor protectors on the bottom of the legs.4
Affordable seatingMarkI bought four of these chairs to supplement our dining table seating and to match our recently acquired IKEA table. Perfect match at an excellent price.5
Follow the Instructions Anonymous reviewerThis is a small chair but also only $35. The complaints here are not following the directions. If you place the seat of the chair on a counter, flip the chair upside down you can screw in the screws easy as can be. It is a sturdy lightweight chair and not bad for the price in this economy. I sure do miss old Ikea but this one still gets a good value for price. 5
Poor quality and lack of pilot holes make assembly difficultDavidThese chairs are mostly fine if you want a light weight basic chair for your first apartment or somewhere temporary. If you want something more 'adult' its probably best to look elsewhere. One thing that I found particularly annoying (and that others have noted) is that there are no pilot holes to for the screws that keep the base attached to the chair itself. This hard due to the angle as well as how these screws are attached to small flimsy plastic pieces. Also, the stain is also only on one side of the base so make sure you pay attention to that as well. Overall you definitely see where they economized. 2
Horrible design and seems extremely cheap not what I normally expect from an IKEA chairStevenI’ve been assembling Ikea stuff since 1992. This was by far the worst set of chairs to assemble the six long screws that go into each chair are extremely difficult to screw in… To the point that if I had to do more, it would definitely be causing joint or risk problem. I have never had this with another Ikea product ever. I actually had to use an extension that was provided by my TV table to actually screw the four chairs together. Crazy. Secondly, for mounting screws that amount the seat to the chair assembly have no pre-drilled holes. The screwing angle is extremely awkward, the screws are fairly big and diameter and I can’t imagine most people having any form of ease and screwing those small screws in . It takes a lot of force with very careful direction to get these screws to mount in to hold the chair seat in place. Once again, extremely bad design. Before there’s always been pre-drilled starter holes. 1

Cute folksy red chair.Anonymous reviewerI like the chairs. They work well in a small space. I don't have any little kids to worry about falling through the backs. They are suprisingly comfortable. I wish you sold cans of red brown stain for touch up and for making matching accessories. I like the straight legs .I have tripped on angled legs on other chairs5

Designer thoughts

When designing PINNTORP series, I looked to Swedish 19th century furniture tradition, a time when resources were scarce and clever use of materials was needed. For the chair, I tested different angles of the backrest for optimal comfort. I was going to add spindles but found that the chair was just as comfy without. Smart use of materials created a distinct look and the series’ red and wood tones also pay tribute to this period – ready to spread warmth and beauty in your home.
