Why are we still using particleboard?ChrisFirst off let me say that I wish it were black but the gray is a nice new addition to the lineup. I probably could have gone with white for my room but I really wanted a darker color. Now for the good, the bad, and the so so. The good. It’s extremely versatile. I highly recommend building your pax layout in an Ikea store with an experienced designer. Why? Well when you do, they will add all that you want and then provide you a printout of what holes to mount your drawers, shelfs and whatever other items you want inside. Their software even accounts for where the door hinges will be. Trust me it’s worth saving the frustration. Assembly is easy of the main unit itself. However, lets get two terrible things out of the way. The particleboard base and the height adjustable leg design do not work. It’s garbage and ikea should be ashamed of this. You get these inserts with cleats that you have to smack into particleboard with a hammer. Any attempt to move this unit ever so slightly with the legs extended is going to rip the inserts and particleboard right out. Good thing I keep JB weld around for garbage like this. Adding JB weld was the only way to get the inserts back in to the base. They ripped out huge chunks of particle board because of their installation. This is a major design flaw IMHO. To give you an idea on my utilization of this item as I’m not using this as a wardrobe. I’m using it to house a 3D printer on a pullout shelf, a laser printer on a pullout shelf, to store a bunch of 3D print spools of filament and a bunch of things out taking up room in man-cave. Now everything is tucked away and super tidy.3
Master closet SupreetThe Pax closet system is easy to install and very functional. My only complaint is that IKEA seems to be out of some pieces for a long time which delays things. 5
Closet ShelvingJeffreyCheaply made! Shelf install is terrible. Unit backing is pathetic.2
Love everything about Pax systems. JoyceBeautiful, big, organization. 5
Perfect end to our closet designPaulWe finished our pax closet with this piece. It has been amazing using these items and it looks amazing.5
Fair qualityAllanGreat system with lots of options. The surface is fragile and nicks easily. The back panel is a pathetic paper like material. Ordering is a nightmare.2
Very FlimsyJaneBuilt the frame for my children's closet and severely disappointed, the two side panels are so flimsy they are bowing out under their own weight. Sadly have to dissemble and return1
Linen closetMarilyn M.The closet is the perfect size for the area that we needed. We were under the impression that the door, mirror and shelving/hardware was included, but they were not. The construction is very good and the shelf and clips to hold it in place is very well made and fit like a glove.5
Closet shelvingJoseph K.I bought this unit to upgrade a clothes closet from the cheap wire rack supported by the drywall only that the contractor installed. Knowing the risk of collapse under load, I installed the IKEA unit along with other units to complete the closet. This center unit was used to add a couple of shelves and soft close drawers. I found the units I bought very easy to assemble (much easier than a comparable Allen Roth unit from a hardware store) and they totally support the clothes hung there without reliance on the sheetrock for support.5
Deeper Than Expected..Monique R.It’s depth is more than expected giving me a tad bit less space to work with but that was my error in measuring. Overall.. I loves it, it’s very sturdy and fulfills what it was purchased for. Also, make a room in your budget to have someone else assemble it.. it’s a tedious task.5
Good piceJudyDidn’t like the color. Looks much better in white4

Very Poor QualityKaleem S.Quality of all Pax wardrobes is extremely poor and not like before.1
Pax systemPollyI LOVE my new closet! I moved from a very large house to a very small house and my closet was 1/10 of what it used to be. I had clothes everywhere until I got the PAX system! It is amazing and helps me organize and find my clothes!5
well run organizationFrank P.the current products are well designed for its purpose and is lighter in weight then its predecessors, however the quality and durability of the finish has been compromised.5
Good qualityAnniaNice finish, easy to ensemble.5
Love my pax...ChrisI would highly recommend you plan and design your layout at ikea with a design center expert. They can help you build it on their software so that you know what basket or drawer will fit best and where due to hinge location and down to the location of every hole you will use to assemble it just like you built it. It takes all of the guess work out of it for you. I have since wired mine with lights as well. It's exactly what I needed to organize my room.5
Easy to AssembleCharles S.I did make a trip for hardware, we were short a couple of screws.5
PaxNaimah T.Winner winner chicken dinner ! I love the entire system !5

Because one size doesn't fit all

Have a little look around — not too obviously, just a peek. Chances are, even if it's just different colored socks or another color of scarf, there's no one dressing exactly the same as you right now.

Which is why it stands to reason that our clothes storage shouldn't be exactly the same either. It's this idea that led us to develop the PAX/KOMPLEMENT clothes and shoes storage. Designed so that no matter what your passion, fashion or personality, your clothes and accessories will have a practical home.

The evolution of storage

It just takes a look through a photo album to see that some of the clothes we used to love might make us wonder 'what was I thinking?' today. And as the way we dress has changed over the years, so too has our approach to making storage at IKEA. That's why we've designed PAX/KOMPLEMENT clothes and shoes storage to adapt to how you would like to store your things, rather than trying to fit your clothes and accessories into an unsuitable space. An idea that's shaped its whole development.

The only similarity is difference

“Most people dream of having an organized wardrobe where they can see all their clothes and accessories. But that's where the similarities end", says Betina Tviis Larsson who developed the PAX/KOMPLEMENT system. Traditional storage often shoehorns you into doing things a set way, whether its folding t-shirts or sorting out a sock drawer – something Betina wanted PAX/KOMPLEMENT to step away from. "We didn't want to say there's a right way or wrong way to organize your clothes. If you want to hang your jeans by their belt loops we want you to be able to do it”, Betina says.

Multiple personality order

To get the design process off on the right foot, the design team focused on what kinds of storage do different people need. "We started by speaking to a lot different people in the team and around IKEA to try and determine different personalities and different needs", Betina explains. And what we ending up with was this a big inventory of preferences and types of things that needed to be stored". By designing around personalities, the team started to develop types of storage that would fit collectors and families just as easily as minimalists and people with very little space. "The whole idea that defined the project became, don't change your personality, change your wardrobe instead", Betina says.

Fitting in function

Bringing this research together, the result is a series of interior organizers that can be adapted for particular uses, from multi-purpose drawers and hangers, to specific features for everything from shoes, to pants, to jewelry. The idea is that each organizer can be mixed or repeated as you choose, so if you want to store your whole sneaker collection inside, or have everything hanging, you can. "I really like to use space in a good way", Betina says. "With this system you can tailor your one wardrobe frame into hundreds of combinations." So whether you're a 'super organizer' or a 'piler' type of clothes person we hope you'll be able to match your storage to suit your style.

What is particleboard?

Particleboard is made from recycled wood and sawmill leftovers – so wood pieces with the wrong shade, woodchips and sawdust become a resource instead of possibly being discarded. We use boards for things like bookcases, bed frames, sofas and kitchen frames. To protect from wear and moisture, we apply varnish, veneer or foil that adds to the furniture's look.

Function solution

Customize it to your style and build it to your space.

With the PAX wardrobe system you can build a storage solution that suits you, your clothes, and your room. Combine interiors organizers with frames in different heights, widths, and finishes and choose hinged or sliding doors in a style you like.
