Exactly what I needed. CheriI love the versatility that the Pax system offers. Constructing the cabinet and accessories were much easier than anticipated too. I definitely would recommend this product 5
I'm obsessedLaurenI saw this closet system in store and knew it was just what our master closet needed. I love to stay organized and I also don't mind building furniture, so this was a fun project for me. I used the online design tool to build my own to the specifications needed, and it was finally in stock so I got it all. I love how it was easy to build, sturdy when anchored to the wall, and looks sleek and clean. I will probably get one of these for my kid's closets also!5
PAX System is awesome!Mark- There was a bit of a learning curve figuring everything out, but once we learned how to use the online IKEA closet simulator, we were able to custom build our PAX System. - Once you start assembling the pieces, refer back to photos of the system you are building. - Once it’s all anchored to the wall, it’s much more solid than we thought it would be.5
Cheap materialsAaronI'm pretty disappointed with the quality of the materials. I purchased Pax wardrobes years ago, and they were considerably more sturdy. These feel like a step above cardboard.2
Stan's reviewStanUsefull either as freestanding or as an insert into a cavity provided the dimensions are compatible.5

Better than ExpectedTrinaOnce it was assembled, it exceeded my expectations! Plenty of room very nice quality.4
It works wellChristinaShipping needs to get better but the product overall is fine5
Wonderful!LeeI've been wanting a smaller Pax unit for my small guestroom that lacks a built in closet. The size I needed has been hard to come by with the pandemic but I lucked out and found a salesperson who found me one and helped make sure i ordered all the correct parts and arranged for delivery the next day, which was also perfect. I am very happy with the service, the delivery, and the end result!5
Could Improve Back Panel DesignTraceyI love my new IKEA closet system. However, this PAX unit could be improved. The back panel is very flimsy and comes folded in half, so you can see the seam once assembled. Instead of sliding the back panel into a groove, you have to hammer in 30+ nails, which is quite time consuming. I like the way it looks, but the design could be improved.3
Worst quality, Frame came apartDevardhiThe frame snapped and came apart while fixing. The screws snapped out of wood and the whole frame fell down. The wood inserts were weak and did not hold the horizontal and vertical frame together, The backside cardboard does not provide strength to the whole structure. Waste of money1
Repeat purchase of this great systemMaryWe’ve bought PAX units before and are buying them again for our new house. Love the function and flexibility, and the fit and finish are excellent. Takes some careful planning to make sure all necessary parts are included in the purchase. Two downsides: 1) I wish IKEA would develop some type of template for adding handles or knobs to the doors, for precision and ease of adding these parts; and 2) Right now availability of product and accessory parts is spotty (“supply chain issues”), so I am unable to complete my PAX system until some unknown future date. Frustrating!5
Superior engineering, excellent dimensional tolerancesJeffThis is engineered to the nth degree. The IKEA engineering department has optimized the weight, cost, and functionality of this wardrobe system. It delivers all the functionality and most of the beauty of closet systems costing 5 times more. I only wish IKEA offered a pull-down closet rod accessory. We had to order those from a 3rd party.5
Functional and easy to assembleJen236Easy, customizable, durable. We are adding trim and painting our closet system but so far it’s incredibly easy to assemble and work with. We found a video on YouTube that helped assemble the larger boxes.5
Happy with my purchaseJacquelineHappy with my purchase5
OK product with average quality materialWeiI think the overall quality of the boards could be improved. The wood chips of the particle board fell off easily. On the positive side, the assembly instructions is thorough, although you need some patience to read it through.3
Broke during assemblyAlexisWorst Ikea purchase ever unfortunately. Really not worth the money when it collapsed like a domino when trying to stand it upright to put next to the wall. Super disappointing as customer service told me I was out of luck because it broke “after” assembly. Had to build it a different way than the instructions said which ended up costing me more money to salvage this wardrobe.1

Because one size doesn't fit all

Have a little look around — not too obviously, just a peek. Chances are, even if it's just different colored socks or another color of scarf, there's no one dressing exactly the same as you right now.

Which is why it stands to reason that our clothes storage shouldn't be exactly the same either. It's this idea that led us to develop the PAX/KOMPLEMENT clothes and shoes storage. Designed so that no matter what your passion, fashion or personality, your clothes and accessories will have a practical home.

The evolution of storage

It just takes a look through a photo album to see that some of the clothes we used to love might make us wonder 'what was I thinking?' today. And as the way we dress has changed over the years, so too has our approach to making storage at IKEA. That's why we've designed PAX/KOMPLEMENT clothes and shoes storage to adapt to how you would like to store your things, rather than trying to fit your clothes and accessories into an unsuitable space. An idea that's shaped its whole development.

The only similarity is difference

“Most people dream of having an organized wardrobe where they can see all their clothes and accessories. But that's where the similarities end", says Betina Tviis Larsson who developed the PAX/KOMPLEMENT system. Traditional storage often shoehorns you into doing things a set way, whether its folding t-shirts or sorting out a sock drawer – something Betina wanted PAX/KOMPLEMENT to step away from. "We didn't want to say there's a right way or wrong way to organize your clothes. If you want to hang your jeans by their belt loops we want you to be able to do it”, Betina says.

Multiple personality order

To get the design process off on the right foot, the design team focused on what kinds of storage do different people need. "We started by speaking to a lot different people in the team and around IKEA to try and determine different personalities and different needs", Betina explains. And what we ending up with was this a big inventory of preferences and types of things that needed to be stored". By designing around personalities, the team started to develop types of storage that would fit collectors and families just as easily as minimalists and people with very little space. "The whole idea that defined the project became, don't change your personality, change your wardrobe instead", Betina says.

Fitting in function

Bringing this research together, the result is a series of interior organizers that can be adapted for particular uses, from multi-purpose drawers and hangers, to specific features for everything from shoes, to pants, to jewelry. The idea is that each organizer can be mixed or repeated as you choose, so if you want to store your whole sneaker collection inside, or have everything hanging, you can. "I really like to use space in a good way", Betina says. "With this system you can tailor your one wardrobe frame into hundreds of combinations." So whether you're a 'super organizer' or a 'piler' type of clothes person we hope you'll be able to match your storage to suit your style.

Material

What is particleboard?

Particleboard is made from recycled wood and sawmill leftovers – so wood pieces with the wrong shade, woodchips and sawdust become a resource instead of possibly being discarded. We use boards for things like bookcases, bed frames, sofas and kitchen frames. To protect from wear and moisture, we apply varnish, veneer or foil that adds to the furniture's look.

Function solution

Customize it to your style and build it to your space.

With the PAX wardrobe system you can build a storage solution that suits you, your clothes, and your room. Combine interiors organizers with frames in different heights, widths, and finishes and choose hinged or sliding doors in a style you like.
