  • By using renewable materials like cellulose and cotton fibers in this product, we avoid using fossil or finite materials.

Lyocell is a cellulose fiber made of wood. Wood is a renewable material and needs less water, pesticides and artificial fertilizers to grow than, for example, cotton.

The cotton in this product is grown with less water, less chemical fertilizers and less chemical pesticides, while increasing profit margins for the farmers. That way, we lower our environmental impact.

    Non-chlorine bleach.

Lyocell is produced in a closed process. Most of the added substances are recycled or reused, which is part of our ambition to reduce our environmental impact.

We want to have a positive impact on the planet. That is why by 2030, we want all materials in our products to be recycled or renewable, and sourced in responsible ways.

Do not buy!Calei K.I had these sheets for less than one week and there is already a hole in one of the pillowcases. They are also not nearly as silky as they look. Do not waste your money1

Uncomfortable and Too LargeCami E.Most uncomfortable, scratchy sheets I’ve ever slept on. Way too large for a standard 10-12 in queen mattress….but great if you like the feeling of being wrapped up in excess sheets whenever you move.1

Love my bedsheetsTARYNThese sheets are extremely comfortable and soft. I do not like the fit of the mattress sheet, it’s very loose could be more snug.5
The size is way off,RosaThe size is way off, I have a queen bed and it was too big for it. I like my fitting sheet to fit nice and tight3

Good fitting sheetsSherriOur mattress is really thick and it’s hard to find sheets that will fit. These worked out great. Very comfortable too and my husband even approved! The dark color is really nice looking. Will probably buy another set.5

Best sheets at a good priceVickieThese sheets are so comfortable and the deep pockets on the fitted sheet will fit any size mattress.5
Flat sheet too small for full sized bedElaineI got a new full sized bed, so decided to get all new bedding. I looked all over for plain white sheet set in cotton. Found this set while shopping for something else at IKEA. I washed this set before use and dried on low. They came out with some wrinkles but no shrinkage. I didn’t iron them. The fitted sheet fit over my full sized 11” mattress perfectly. However, the flat sheet didn’t seem to go around and under the sides of my mattress, so I couldn’t tuck it in. Not sure if that was intentional because I always tucked in the sides of my flat sheet even though they always came untucked when sleeping. The length was fine though. The pillowcases fit over my queen sized pillows from IKEA. The cotton and lyocell fabric was nice and soft with a very light sateen sheen. They looked great even though I didn’t iron them. I think this is a decent set of sheets although I think the flat sheet should be larger. I also love that these sheets can be purchased separately in case I needed more. Would buy again.3

Our take on cotton

We use cotton in many of our products, from sofas and cushions to bed linen and mattresses. It is a soft, durable and renewable fiber that breathes and is good at absorbing moisture. All these great qualities make cotton one of our most important materials, but it isn’t without its challenges, much having to do with conventional farming methods that negatively impact the environment and poor working conditions for farmers. With our size and production volumes, we want to drive change in the cotton industry. By only using recycled cotton or cotton from more sustainable sources, working with partnerships and initiatives on the ground and prioritizing compliance, we believe that we can make a positive impact in the world of cotton.

100% cotton from more sustainable source

Since 2015, all cotton in IKEA products is either recycled or comes from more sustainable sources*. This means that we only source cotton grown using sustainable farming practices that reduce the use of fertilisers, pesticides and water, improve working conditions and earnings for farmers, and benefit ecosystem health and biodiversity conservation. We have set up a system that enables use to trace all our cotton and ensure that the final product is from approved, certified sources. *Cotton from more sustainable sources commits to the following schemes: Better Cotton (as defined by BCI, including their equivalence in various geographies), cotton from farmers working towards the BCI standard (TBC).

Working together to drive change

Each year, IKEA uses around 0.5 percent of all cotton grown around the world. This may not seem like a lot, but the number is big enough to drive change in the industry. For many years, we have been working with partners and stakeholders globally to transform conventional large-scale cotton farming and set social and environmental standards for cotton production. As an example, we helped set up the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) who runs the world’s largest cotton sustainability programme. BCI exists to make global cotton production better for the people who produce it, better for the environment it grows in and better for the sector’s future. Today, more than 110,000 farmers have adopted more sustainable farming practices within IKEA projects.

Ensuring compliance throughout the value chain

All IKEA products are produced in accordance with the IKEA IWAY Standard, our Supplier Code of Conduct. It sets out the minimum environmental and social standards expected from our suppliers, including compliance with local laws. We do not accept any form of forced labor, child labor or treatments in breach of our supply chain requirements. Our cotton teams across the globe ensure that all cotton used in IKEA products meets the demands of compliance in our supply chain. By having teams on the ground in areas where it has previously been challenging to work responsibly, we can challenge the traditional ways of working and improve the industry. If we discover that we are acting in places where we cannot ensure our requirements are being met, we follow-up on the ground and drive change.

What is cotton?

Cotton is one of the world's most appreciated and used natural fibers. Textiles in cotton are soft, hardwearing and can be washed at high temperatures. They are also good at breathing and absorbing moisture – making them pleasant to wear close to the body. Today at IKEA we use more and more recycled cotton and strive to make sure that all the new cotton we use has been grown and produced with less and less amounts of pesticides, fertilizers and water.
