Solid floating shelfj3rnBefore I bought this, I was considerably worried about other reviews that stated that it wasn't sturdy. Mine is working wonderfully! I hunted around with a stud finder to find some studs that aligned with where I wanted to hang the shelf, then mounted the bracket with some 3 wood screws. Right now it's hanging with easily 10lbs of stuff (text books and plants). It's worth noting that this shelf _does not_ come with any mounting screws, just the bracket you need to secure to the wall and some screws to secure the shelf to the bracket. Take it from me: Get some big wood screws and mount it to studs.5
Easy installation.HappyGunner1Brackets are hidden inside shelf.5
Great productsJandre1964The product from Ikea are good quality and good value.5
Ordered 4 and all 4 arrived damagedShippingsucks66Due to Ikea store closures I had to order these online. They took a couple weeks to arrive and then all of them arrived damaged.3
Great shelfsSonja 19Love this shelfs they are great and it looks good5
Perfect affordable shelvingDuckFuDon't believe the negative reviews! If installed correctly using the appropriate wall anchors or studs it DOES NOT SAG OR LEAN. If you have this problem you most likely are not using anchors or mounting it to the studs or you did not secure the screws tight enough to the wall. It performs exactly as it is meant to when installed correctly5
Good Quality, smaller than expected for me.Pitt747Good Quality, smaller than expected for me.3
Stylish and seamless.AndelloWe used this under a wall mounted tv as a shelf for knick-knacks and small electronics (sound bar and nintendo switch dock). It works like a charm! Our wires are hidden in the wall and this was the perfect way to accomplish a clutter free look to finish off our entertainment area.5
Super cute and easy to installSlee108I bought these to fit my 47” space and it’s the perfect size. They are easy to install and look modern and timeless. And the price is right!!5

KimmiebooI brought this product and I’m happy with my decision5
Buy brackets if you install this shelforganizationjunkieWe were excited about displaying plastic models, and organizing some hobby/games 'stuff' -- and bought (unfortunately) many 'LACK' shelves. We installed them right into stud. We've put up Elfa and many other shelving systems before. But, never had the issue of the shelves sagging so badly. So, we had to find/purchase brackets, install them under the shelves on the stud, to prevent the sagging. The shelf just doesn't hug the fastener in the back, as closely/tightly as it should. Our shelves are not loaded down AND they're in the stud. This should not have happened.2
Great! If you want to buy extra partsUnsatisfied123The shelf looks great in the store but dosnt come with everything you need to mount it at home. Bought simular shelves in the past that included everything needed looks like thats no longer the case.1
Easy install and great shelves!Kevin ShelfI have now purchased 6 of these over the past couple of years. They look great, are sturdy, and very easy to install!!! Will be purchasing 2 more soon.5
Lack shelves easy to install and look greatWall displaysThe lack shelves are easy to install and look great. The hidden bracket system is easy to install and ensures a solid mount to the wall.5
Simple and sleekanalogromeoThis is an aesthetically pleasing and perfectly functional choice for my low stress needs. Mounting was easy enough to do by myself even though the shelf is pretty long5
Works Well - Needs extra parts for best resultsDT_6I can only recommend screwing this directly into wall studs, I would never try drywall anchors for this. That said, be prepared to have to drill some extra holes in the bracket in the event your studs don't all lineup with the existing holes. To mount it, I purchased 3-inch drywall screws to secure this along with some AAA sized washers from Home Depot (13 cents each). I placed the washers ONLY on the bottom row of screws on the bracket. This makes the bracket tilt very slightly up (remember to put the washer between the bracket and the wall, then insert the screw), and in my opinion helps to prevent sag. I agree with another reviewer that a three prong bracket would be better, but with this mod, it is working well.4
Chalking around the edge helpsMaxipadYears ago I bought floating shelves at lowes and that had a metal bracket with rods that stuck out and then you slid the shelf onto the rods and it was pretty secure. When I bought these at Ikea I figured it would be the same, I was wrong! There is practically nothing holding this shelf. I bought it to house my blown glass collection. I did not want to return because the size was right as well as the price. So, I chalked around the edge where the shelf meets the wall all the way around and sides, and it works fairly well. I would not place more than 25 lbs. on a shelf if chalk is used and much less if you were forgo the chalking.2
Sleek designNicole525I bought this a few weeks ago and I'm happy I did. Looks great in my family room!5
Terrible designJess234Bought four of these yesterday. The display shelves were leaning downward in the store, we didn't think anything of it because we thought customers messed with it. It was installed exactly as the instructions said, and the shelf is sagging just like the display. What a terrible design and waste of time1

How much weight can a shelf hold?

Even a strong wall shelf will only be able to bear a little weight if it's attached to the wall with the wrong hardware. For a wall shelf to be practical and secure you must use the right hardware for the wall type. Check if your walls are concrete, plaster or wood. There are hardware for all wall types. If you can, try to determine what part of the wall is load-bearing. The most secure place to mount a shelf is on the bearing part of the wall.
