Great Couch, but it's workMikeThis is our second Kivik. Had delivered to beach house, delivery team was great. comes in 4 big boxes so you need to have area to stage and build. Have your tools like ratchet set and power screwdriver as this is practically now feasible with little allen wrenches. Note: directions are in the boxes with cushion covers. assembly is fairly straightforward if you take your time. It takes time to iron all the cushion covers and stuffing them is a bit challenging. Very tight fit. Make sure you have two people for this assembly. At the end you will have a $5k couch for $2k but you have to do some work. Very Comfy and kids love it. 4
Amazing couch!!MarleneColor is amazing! The texture of the material is excelente and it’s just perfect for me!! 5
GreatSuzanneLove my new couch. It's the perfect balance of firm, yet comfortable. It took about 3 hours to assemble it by myself. I love the corduroy cover, my only wish is that Ikea would have more colors and fabric options.5
7+ years of loveAlisonWe have had this sofa for over 7 years with kids and pets! We are remodeling our living room and are trying to decide if we should recover it or buy a new sectional to match our update. The frame and cushioning are fine, but the kids have been very rough on it, so a new cover is a must for us. 5
Great affordable sofa!NikoleWe get compliments on it all the time! It looks great and holds up well to wear and tear. The light gray color goes with everything and the fabric is soft. The cushions are on the firm side, but are still very comfortable. 5
Not worth the hassleAnonymous reviewerMy roommate and I just bought this couch to replace the Friheten one we had for the last two years (nothing wrong with it, just needed more room).
We were excited until it came time to actually build this couch, and there’s another reviewer who was right on the money: hire someone else to build this for you. I have never had issues with Ikea furniture, assembly instructions have always easy to follow in my opinion. This couch? I don’t think we’ll ever buy another couch from Ikea again. These assembly instructions need words, and better parts. I have never been as frustrated as when building this piece of furniture, half because most of it seems to not make sense.
I don’t have the word count for this review to go in depth, but frankly, I’ll be calling for some money back for the sheer waste of time it was to even build this. Save up for a better couch elsewhere, the hassle isn’t worth it. 1
Fall apart at 3rd year after purchaseAnonymous reviewerI've ordered an L shaped sofa. On 3rd year, bottom support wood plank fell of from the sides. I figured out that all support was done by staples to the cheap side boards.
It doesn't for families, maybe for singles.3
You can not redesign a Kivik SofaAnnaI have bought this L couch Kivik Sofa. I have redesigned my living room and split them into two love seats. My understating is that you can design a Kivik sofa, since on the IKEA website it shows you can. I needed two hand rest ( left and right) for the two loveseat that came out of dismantling the L couch. I went to IKEA store and I was told they don’t sell those parts. Now I have to throw away one loveseat and corner couch because I’m unable to buy parts that make it whole once it is separated. 2
Least favorite IKEA purchase everRobertThis is our 4th IKEA couch/sofa; we bought this sectional to replace our 14 year old Karlstad, which we absolutely loved. Kivik falls short:
- The cushions have no give; they're uncomfortably firm.
- When sitting, the distance between your back and knees is too short (and we're short people).
- The couch arms look cute, but you quickly miss normal couch arms when you want a place to rest your arm or back.
- The cushion covers feel very thin and flimsy. I don't anticipate them lasting long.
- The backside of the seat cushions are made of a cheap, flimsy material that is different from the top of the cushions. The seat cushions cannot be flipped over.
This might be our last IKEA couch. If we could return it, we would, but it's already assembled and a three hour drive from the nearest store (plus we don't have a vehicle large enough to hold a sectional - it was delivered to us). If IKEA would come pick this couch up and refund us, we would absolutely accept that. We miss Karlstad.2
Amazing sectional!!!ZiEasy build
Good instruction
Pretty sturdy so far
Hope it last because it fit our living room perfectly!5
The cushions are falling apart! EmineWe bought this couch to replace our 10+ years old “Karlstad Sectional” but after 6 months of normal usage when I attempt to wash the covers the inside cushions are all ripped off and falling apart, even the backsides.. it is a total disappointment, the material is cheap and now I am afraid to take off the covers one more time to wash them again! Not the same quality as “Karlstad” series. 3
Very nice StaceyDefinitely worth the money! Awesome color very comfy 5
Love This CouchAnonymous reviewerI love the design of this couch, and it’s comfortable! Surprisingly, it wasn’t too difficult to put together. The corner couch cushions getting stuffed into their cases was the most challenging step. This was my second KIVIK model couch, I have had the love seat for a few years, and after exploring what sectional to get for the family room, KIVIK came out on top again. 5
Sofa cost me $700+ per year. Will not last.AmyBought this sectional two years ago with a blue slipcover. The slip cover was very thin and looked dumpy almost immediately. The base and the arm came apart. It was held together by a bunch of pin nails shot in – maybe 50? Not made well. So I figure that at $1500ish: it cost me $750 per year for this sofa. Disappointing as I’ve purchased sofas from IKEA before and never had this experience with such bad quality.2
Ridiculously good valueKristinI hesitated to buy an IKEA sofa - and all i can say is that i wish i hadn't waited so long. I purchased a sofa from a place i'll call 'East Oak' and within a year, with frequent cleaning and gentle use by one woman and two small dogs, it looked like it had been dug out of a landfill. I was afraid this sectional would feel cheap or be uncomfortable. It's holding up great and I can attest it's a good napping sofa. Firm but not rock-hard cushions, and solid construction. Incredibly good value for money. Could not be happier with this purchase.5
Attractive, durable, great for familiesAnonymous reviewerI’ve had this sectional sofa for 5 years and it continues to be a comfortable place to lounge and sleep. It’s stood up to 2 young kids jumping on it daily. I love the washable cover - I just washed the cushion covers and after putting it all back together, the couch looks fresh and new. The low, wide arm rests are surprisingly useful and comfortable. I keep debating replacing the couch for aesthetic reasons, but can’t part with it just yet because it continues to be excellent.5
BeautifulZachKivik is comfortable and the perfect size for our living room. The covers are durable and the color is really nice. Would totally recommend.5
Great CouchIsaacCouch is sturdy and visually appealing. Great couch for a great price.5
SectionalMeaganCouch is very comfortable, well made. Fairly easy to put together.5
The cushion covers are 1IreneThe cushion covers are 1 sided, so flipping cushions is inconvenient- as the covers would need to be taken off and put back on each time.4
