Reviews

My whole new neighborhood hates me now, and I hate this shelf.JulieAs other reviewers have said, the amount of sheer force required to hammer the feet onto this shelf is indescribable. The sound while assembling these parts was deafening, and it was a terrible impression to make on my new neighborhood. Also, the instructions are not clear that the "feet" which go on the bottom and those which go on the top are not interchangeable until it's too late. Due to the way they go together (sheer blunt force and with a mechanism like wall anchors), this item is now permanently assembled incorrectly with no hope of fixing it. I could assemble Billy bookcases all day, but I will never even consider one of these ever again.1
Needs a hammer to fully complete installationMelThe product description didn't mention it but you need to hammer in the "legs" and the top parts. You can kinda get away without it, especially if you have something like a dumbbell to get the parts in halfway. It's pretty stable even without attaching to a wall (assuming no small creatures around to climb on it). Saves me so much floor space!4
Great for extra closet storageAmyIt fit perfectly under the hanging rid in my extra closet. It wasn't too hard to put together until the last 4 bars which had to be hammered in. This other review is spot on: "Last 5% of assembly is INSANELY LOUD, WEIRDLY DIFFICULT, AND SPITS LITTLE SHARDS OF PLASTIC EVERYWHERE. The sound of the posts getting hammered is a sharp, high pitched metal clang like a blacksmith." I didn't think it was going to work and finally got enough muscle into it. It does need stabilizing.4
Great Shelf at a Great PriceStevenI bought one of these to see how it was and was so happy with it that I bought two more. It's fairly priced and was easy to put together. It really helped me organize a new house I just moved into. Thanks, IKEA, for making such a great product at an affordable price.5
Simple, clean, lightweight shelfAnonymous reviewerVery easy to put together, looks great. Creates lots of room for storage without feeling heavy and cluttered. 5
Perfect sizeMarynaThis rack has a perfect size for my existing closet to create shelf space that was lacking. It is well built and brought much needed organization. I put it in the middle section and it works fine there.5
Classy, sturdy and very functionalAlanNot sure why the reviews greatly under rate it. (you have to tighten the bolts silly! Sure it's strong but do not expect it to store a car engine on it) I just finished building one and going to get one more. The design is beautiful. I am going to store bins, blankets and heavier items on it and have the unit in a closet. It is so good looking it could easiely go in a living room or den or office. If you found the exact same thing at a high end furnising outlet like Crate and Barrel or Pottery Barn they would certainly charge you $200+ for sure. Ikea: $49. Just for reference, I have been purchasing and assembling Ikea since 1991. Alan5
Inexpensive, but really flimsyJulietIn the store, they had the display model screwed to the wall, which made the unit seem much more sturdy than it actually is. It's inexpensive, for sure, but when we looked at in in store, it seemed like it was still strong enough to be worth it. Good size, for sure - but really flimsy. It actually will twist out of shape - you really HAVE to brace it against something (should be screwed into the wall). It will tip over very easily, or even torque out of shape - don't put anything dangerous or heavy on it, and be really careful with kids around it.2
Shelves as DescribedElizabethThe shelves were as described. Clear instructions, easy to assemble. Look good.5
TrashAnnalieseNot really sure how these got a 4.5 star but these shelves are actually terrible. We just picked them up and went to assemble them and every single shelf was either bent, chipped, dented or warped in some way. I’m not even sure they would hold the 55 pound maximum the sizing states. These will be getting returned ASAP. 1
Delivered BrokenStephanieBroken upon delivery. Corners bent, paint was chipped.1
Neighbors will think you started blacksmithingAnonymousPros: Great clean look and size for the price. Low-profile screws, less noticeable than many other Ikea shelves. 95% of the assembly super easy. Cons: Last 5% of assembly is INSANELY LOUD, WEIRDLY DIFFICULT, AND SPITS LITTLE SHARDS OF PLASTIC EVERYWHERE. The sound of the posts getting hammered is a sharp, high pitched metal clang like a blacksmith. Not exaggerating. And you have to hit each tiny post REALLY, REALLY hard over 20 times each post to get them all the way in. Feeling guilty each hit for the sound. And it scrapes plastic off of the posts as they go in, and spits the shards out all over the place. What the heck happened during the design of this thing? That level of fit isn't even necessary to stabilize the top and bottom. A simple 'push/click' would've sufficed. Weirdly disappointing. 2
Might seem easy but margin for error is lowFelicityThe assembly process was ok until you need to put in the crossbars top and bottom oh boy wasnt it loud and it was pretty much impossible to hammer them all the way in, don’t know if it’s because the parts are problematic, they sure feel problematic. Even with those the shelf itself is wobbly- I can’t tie it to the wall so I don’t even feel safe using it. 1
Strong, attractive, easy to assemble, shelving unitJoelThe Jonaxel 5-shelf shelving unit takes only 30 minutes to assemble, is strong and lightweight and is attractive and economical. 5
Sturdy shelf!TrishI bought 3 of these shelves to hold my fabric boxes in my sewing room. I wasn’t sure if they’d be sturdy enough and I was pleasantly surprised! They are lightweight but super sturdy. The white color works well with my cabinets in my sewing room. I’m 66 and put them together easily by myself. 5
would have been goodMelissaI like the simplicity of this shelving unit. It's has nice clean lines and is a good size. I didn't mind it needed to be anchored to the wall for security. Sadly, two of the shelves came extremely warped. If it came in good condition, I would have given it 4 stars.2
Perfect for my needsLynHad to mod some side slats for my books on one shelf, but perfect for all other craft items. Use the wall supports. 5
jonaxel Julietgreat product easty to assemble good size5
Regarding delivery KyokoThe material of this product is not durable. Therefore, I wanted to be careful about shipping. The shelf of the item I received was damaged and bent. There was no problem with assembly, but I was disappointed in the finished look. If you are concerned about these points, you may want to avoid shipping.1
Just what I needed!Anonymous reviewerNice product bought a second one.5

Put your closet monster on a diet

Do you know what’s hidden in your closets? Probably some might-fit-me-later-clothes, sports equipment, shoes, umbrellas and stuff that doesn't belong there. But in every closet there’s also valuable space. JONAXEL storage system makes it easier to use it in smarter ways – from the forgotten corners to the void up to the ceiling.

When we want to tidy up at home, it might make sense to throw things into a dark, confined space and then forget about them. But there’s a downside to it. It can transform your closet into a monster. “In the long run it becomes hard to keep track of your belongings, things disappear and you get a clutter that can feel stressful,” says Paul Hughes who’s been involved in developing JONAXEL.

Home visits revealed the truth

To find out how to best help people with issues like this, Paul and his colleagues visited different homes on three continents. They took pictures and bombarded the homeowners with storage-related questions. “We got to see the hard truth, and it wasn’t always pretty,” smiles Paul. “Many have closets with just a shelf and a rail underneath. It’s simple, but not very functional. They stuff the shelf and hang as much as they can on the rail – the rest ends up on the floor.”

Save time and space

It’s quite common that other parts of life get in the way for a clutter-free everyday, either we don’t have the energy, time or interest to fix it. “That’s why we had to come up with a simple solution that’s easy to put together,” says Paul. The smallest JONAXEL unit fits almost anywhere, and you can create more storage by simply stacking units on top of each other. “It’s a system that lets you take control of the spaces you have. Help on the way to a more organised life and a strategy for keeping closet monsters from growing too big.”

What is steel?

Steel has unique characteristics when it is stretched and shaped since it remains strong. It provides strength to everything from skyscrapers and cars to bed frames and outdoor furniture. The steel industry is moving in the direction of more energy-efficient production and stronger steel qualities. It doesn’t lose any of its properties when recycled and today steel is one of the most recycled materials in the world.
