Dangerous, Unstable, and No Support from IKEAJulianI bought the IDANÄS King upholstered bed frame (Gunnared dark gray) in January 2022. It’s not just poorly made—it’s dangerous. The front legs are part of the main structural support, and after normal use, they became unstable to the point where the entire bed is now unusable and unsafe. It wobbles, sinks, and leans, making it a hazard to sleep on.
Worse, there’s no warranty, and when I contacted IKEA, they told me to visit the store. My closest store is over 3.5 hours away—an absurd solution for a serious product defect. It’s clear from online reviews that this is a known issue, yet IKEA continues to sell it with no fix and no accountability.
Do not buy this bed. It’s not built to last, and IKEA won’t help when it inevitably fails.1
Worst BedPravinDon’t waste your time and money on this bed1
Worst Bed Purchased from IKEA PravinAs previous customers have stated, the quality of the legs is just HORRIBLE! Both front legs snapped off and the bed is currently unusable. To add insult to injury, IKEA does not offer these legs as replacement parts and the only answer I received was a lukewarm apology from an IKEA associate in the online chat. Unless IKEA fixes this problem, you better steer away from this bed! I received email from IKEA regarding details after that nothing offered as solution for this stay away 1
Same broken leg issue - no resolution from IKEAMistyThe legs broke off after 21 months and IKEA refuses to do anything about it because it's outside the 180-day window and "there is no limited warranty for this product." I purchased this bed in-store, so prior to my purchase I didn't see the MANY, MANY negative reviews of this bed -- going back at least to 2022 -- about the legs breaking. If I had, I certainly wouldn't have purchased it. Apparently this has been a known safety issue for years now, yet Ikea is still selling this bed, and still refusing to do right by the customers. FWIW, I'm an average sized person living alone, and the bed has never been disassembled or moved. Bed frames should last more than a few months, especially for this much money. I've always loved Ikea, but now I will certainly think twice or thrice before buying anything expensive there again. Like another reviewer noted: shame on Ikea for continuing to profit off of unsafe products.1
Cheap partsBrandonWe purchased this bed frame on 5/24/25. This is my 5th ikea bed frame as i have moved through out the years and sold them all. The quality has progressively declined.
When building this frame, my first king, i noticed some upgrades that impressed me at first. I did notice the center support beam was not a solid piece of wood.
The support beam broke in 4 days. We are not crazy heavy people either. We called up support and they offered to comp to the metal support beam that has legs, if we have our original receipt. I may have accidentally thrown it out after building it. So, we are hoping the store can assist with the credit card.
Still, for an $800 frame, why would you not use solid wood for the center support? I dont know if this was a damaged beam, but they dont make wooden replacements. My experience with the ikea metal supports hasnt been great. Within a year, the support legs are loose and worn.2
Do Not Buy This Bed - The Legs Break Off and IKEA Does Nothing!JenniferThis bed was a waste of $600. As many others have said, the front legs break off randomly. IKEA does not sell them as replacement parts and will not do anything to resolve the issue if the bed is over 6 months old. My daughter sat on it and the legs broke off, tossing her to the floor. She was sobbing thinking she had unintentionally broken my bed. Shame on IKEA for knowing this is a safety problem and doing nothing about it. Do more children need to be injured or killed by your products before you do anything?! Do better!1

Poor Quality – Front Legs Snapped Off After 1 YearPerryI had high hopes for the IDANÄS bed, but after just over a year of regular use, both front legs completely snapped off. No excessive weight, no rough treatment—just normal, everyday use. A quick look at other reviews shows I’m not alone. Dozens of customers have reported the same issue, and yet IKEA’s response is always the same: “Sorry for the inconvenience,” with no actual fix or accountability. It’s frustrating and disappointing, especially from a brand known for quality and design. For a bed at this price point, this kind of failure is unacceptable. If safety, durability, and customer service matter to you, do yourself a favor and stay far away from the IDANÄS bed. IKEA needs to take these complaints seriously and offer a real solution—not just apologies.1
Great bed, HORRIBLE legsJenniferWe've had this bed since moving to our new place in August 2021. No complaints regarding set up/assembly, comfort, looks; we've really enjoyed it. The problem started severl months ago when we noticed the bed was becoming "wobbly" and very shaky. Did our best to tighten the legs, although one of them appeared to be stripped and wouldn't tighten. Helped to make the bed sturdy for a couple of months, but the problem returned and has really been annoying. Went online to look for and order replacement legs, but they are not available. I was highly discouraged once I read all of the sub-par one- and two-star reviews, mostly regarding the legs. If I would have known this, I would not have purchased this item. Hoping my review will save someone else the frustration going forward...choose another bed!2
The headboard makes a strange noisePeiqingEvery time I lean against it, it makes a sound. The headboard is made of two joined panels, which feel quite unstable.3
Legs - planned obsolescence?PierceThe legs are obviously a design flaw - all that I've seen online with this problem (many) show that the bolt snapped in between the leg and the corner piece it's connected to. This happens with products, I'm not too upset that there was a design flaw. I am, however, annoyed that the ikea response is just to return it within 180 days. I bet almost everyone here is past that date; it seems 2-3 years is how long these last on average. I would be happy to order a replacement, even pay for it, but these legs aren't even a listed part so I'm out of luck. When so many people have the same issue, there needs to be a solution for it because now I'm hesitant my next purchase from here won't last. Not planning to shop Ikea any time soon. 2
MInor fix and the bed was perfectAnthonyBought this bed about two weeks ago and loved it in the store. Got it home and it was squeaking when we rolled over at night. I did two fixes and it was great. I applied 1 inch x 1/8 inch solid neoprene strips on the metal slats and the center wooden slat and no more squaks. Also placed a adjustable support legs under the wooden center slat for even more stability. No issues since doing that! 4
Front leg breaks offJennPurchased this bed in 2022.
After a year it started to squeak with movement. Then the front leg fell off after the boys (both less than 70 lbs were playing on it)
We replaced the leg twice, but it keeps falling off.
It is a shame. It looks nice and has lots of room for storage under it. Luckily the falling bed hasn't broke any items or fallen on our pet!
We are gonna attempt one more time to replace the leg before we'll have to place it on the floor.2
DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY YeimyI am extremely disappointed with the IDANÄS bed from IKEA. After only one year of use, it started making a loud squeaking noise every time I move, which is incredibly annoying. It has also become very unstable, and to make matters worse, two of the legs broke completely. Now, I’m forced to sleep on the floor because the bed is no longer usable. I expected better quality for the price, and I’m beyond frustrated with how quickly this bed fell apart. Would not recommend this product to anyone.1
DO NOT BUY - THE LEGS BREAK WITHIN TWO YEARSJoonDO NOT BUY - THE LEGS BREAK WITHIN TWO YEARS
Ikea has no warranty and no replacements. 1
Doesn’t lastSandraSurprised to see this bed is still being sold. IKEA the legs on this bed do not last. I bought a king and queen, lasted two years and had to replace both. It’s a beautiful looking bed. I was super disappointed they didn’t last. 1
Love this bed!Anonymous reviewerThis bed was easy to put together by my husband and I. Pay close attention to the instructions and you won’t be disappointed. We have absolutely NO issue with the legs. This bed is GREAT! It is sturdy, doesn’t wobble or move, doesn’t creak or squeak. It’s a quiet, good looking, and very comfortable bed. We love it and we’re glad we made the purchase. 5
Disappointment - Bad designJessicaAs many have already mentioned, the bed and the legs are a design flaw (it's beautiful, but not functional). The bed is not sturdy at all. After 2 years of having this bed, the leg snapped off. I reached out to customer service and the bed does not come with warranty and you have to go in store to purchase a leg because the legs do not have an article number. If you decide to buy this bed, don't expect it to hold up for long. May the odds be ever in your favor!1
Legs not sturdy for King SizeAceI bought the bed frame and really liked the color and was great... until it wasn't. The legs for my King Size kept buckling and is now useless.
How can I get it replaced. Not the headboard, just the frame? Please help me.1
