PSA - no different from buying the bookshelves separateAnonymous reviewerWhen I purchased this bookshelf, I expected that the three bookshelves would connect together somehow, like how it looks in the image. Instead, purchasing this is no different (not in price or product) from purchase two large bookcases and the slimmer one separately. The don't join together, instead you push them up next together and hope for the best.
Seems disingenuous to not point this out in the description, listing this as a separate product with different Article num instead of referencing the numbers of the actual shelf types. Had I known this, I'd have just bought two individual bookshelves and saved some money. I went with this only because I wanted a full single-unit wall look.
As an aside, I noticed that the quality of parts has gone down - the head of the lock-screws would strip before I even got it screwed in all the way, and bent much easier than past Hemnes products I've put together and still have from years ago.
Overall please - one change recommendedSabrinaOverall, I am very pleased with my shelves. I like the color and size. The quality is good considering the price. I had seen these in various friends and families' homes, so I wasn't expecting high end wood. I had never purchased or put IKEA furniture, so a friend helped me. I am so glad. I was surprised (but apparently this is common knowledge) that IKEA directions are essentially hieroglyphics. Thankfully, since my friend had put up the same shelves for her own home, so it was easy. It is a two-person job. I had a different friend come to mount the shelves to my walls. I strongly encourage and purchaser to make sure and mount. It gives you a peace of mind considering how full these shelves allow you to fill them. my ONE complaint - small item, but BIG issue - the shelf pins. The rear shelf pins are shorter on one end. IMHO this is a design flaw. For if your shelf does not sit flush to the side panels, then it collapses under the weight. Significant hazard. Especially, since IKEA indicates you're not flip the shelf pin so that you're resting the shelf on the longer pin side. Since standard industry shelf pins are equal on both sides and equal to the longer end of the IKEA shelf pin, it appears to me the IKEA deviated from industry standard and purposely shortened the pin. I can't understand why. I wish they hadn't done that. It required me finding alternative pins from a different vendor so that my shelves would not collapse, and I could truly use each shelf fully. I would still purchase these shelves. I just wish I had known about this flaw and/or that IKEA had not made this design decision.
Perfect!MaryPurchased this for my office. After assembling the first unit, the others went together quite quickly. It is very sturdy. My floor is a bit unlevel and leveling it was quite easy. Love it and the price is amazing for this size sturdy and beautiful unit.
I love the way itMeganI love the way it looks, but I would have liked it better if there was a way to connect the 3 separate bookcases together. Also the particle board cracks very easily so be extra cautious when screwing it down.
Good and relatively easy to put togetherAnonymousExcellent workmanship. I do not understand, however, why they have not put in the longer shelf brackets since there is a caution about them since the wood could shrink. Why not fix it in the first place?
