Sturdy dresser, classy lookJenniferMy 9-year old daughter loves this dresser. It’s fairly large and takes up a good part of her room, but it holds lots of clothes and is sturdy. It elevated the look of her bedroom. A good value. We hired TaskRabbit through IKEA for assembly and it was well worth it. He came quickly and assembled the dresser in a fraction of the time it would have taken us to do it. I felt confident knowing it was complete and safe.
Worst to put together!MarianaThis has been the worst piece of furniture I’ve ever put together. The directions are useless. While putting together the pieces, I noticed one was broken. I had to drive an hour north to get two replacement pieces. When the handyman from task rabbit came to assemble it (I gave up) I was given the WRONG replacement pieces. I had to drive back to Sacramento, get the left piece I needed. Then, the handyman came back to complete the dresser and told me one of the other replacement pieces was also incorrect, so he couldn’t finish building it. I have to drive back up north, get the correct piece. Then, while trying to put the last piece in the dresser, the handyman man from task rabbit (the third party ikea uses to assemble furniture) took the screws I needed to complete the dresser. Now I have to go find a matching screw. I don’t even know if these screws can be bought at any hardware store. Thanks for giving me the wrong replacement pieces two times IKEA!

The worst piece of ikea furniture everBlairI am going to finally give up trying to put this together, as the bottom two drawers are in place and WILL NOT OPEN. I even cut a hole in the back wall of the dresser to try and figure out that the issue is and its not clear. To echo what other reviewers have said: it's flimsy, it's wobbly, it's seemingly impossible to put together correctly. I've been putting together Ikea furniture for 25 years and never have I experienced this. I deeply regret this purchase as it was a waste of money and an even bigger waste of time.
Flimsy constructionRonaldThe crossbars that divide the draws aren’t secured to frame. If any pressure is used to move dresser displaces the bar.
Cheap - Difficult AssemblyNelidaThis was probably one of the most difficult assemblies I’ve ever had to do for a piece of furniture. I finally had to hire TaskRabbit to help me finish. Not more than three months later the material warped at the top and the paint is peeling. Absolute trash. This item should be discontinued.

Perfect choice!RachelWas looking for a dresser for the guest room at our kids' home. Good sized room, so we went with the Gullaberg instead of the Hemnes - little larger, and was on sale. Went together well, no problems following the picture directions, and it is a sturdy unit.
HorribleJoannaWorst piece of furniture I’ve ever attempted to assemble. So unstable and wobbly. Was hoping to use it in the nursery however it is literally unsafe. Screws were stripping from the very start. Instructions difficult and unclear. Can’t find my receipt. Will probably just eat my loss and toss it.
Beautiful piece of furniture, comically bad build instructionsAlisonI know, I know- Ikea is known for their terrible build instructions but this one takes the cake! I am handy and my partner literally builds cars (hobby) and human body parts (job), and this took us 2 days, 3 beers, and 1,500 curse words to build. The angles of the build pictures in the manual can only be described as "approaching birds eye view with no directional arrows." Good luck! Once it is built though- it is beautiful!
Great HUGE dresserChristianMy daughter and I just finished assembling this unit yesterday afternoon. It is a very solid unit, instructions were clear and straightforward. Tons of space for all her stuff :-) my only recommendation is to double check your space as it is indeed a large dresser.

Miserable assembly experience.RichardThis is no HEMNES replacement. It weighs in 50 pounds heavier for being the same dimensions as the HEMNES. The assembly instructions in the package are not clear at times and lack a magnified view for what direction a part is to be attached or what fastener is to be used. This results in guessing and then disassembly when guessed incorrectly. Also, the instructions that come in the package differ from the instructions that can be downloaded from IKEA. This would have been nice to know as some of the assembly steps have been modified in the downloaded instructions that address some of these issues. Maybe a sticker on the boxes stating “DOWNLOAD THE UPDATED INSTRUCTIONS”. This was by far the most frustrating IKEA assembly I have ever completed.
Also two pieces were broken straight out of the box. The embedded plastic stud/attachments were sheared off with no remnants in the box so most likely packaged without proper inspection. Gone are the metal turn-bolts to tighten joined pieces.
I’m distraughtElenaDecided to purchase an IKEA dresser to replace my Hemnes one that was damaged when moving houses. —Unfortunately the quality of this product for the price was disappointing and I wish I looked at the reviews more closely before buying.
(1) Assembly was very difficult for me personally and it took a whole day. I don’t recall my HEMNES dresser assembly being difficult in this way, the manual is not detailed. (2) Unfortunately, the quality looks and feels cheap. I shop at ikea for an inexpensive alternative, and I would expect this quality for a $100-$200 dresser, not a $300-$400 one. Unfortunately one of the support beams broke during assembly so I won’t be returning this item. Lesson learned, I don’t think I will be purchasing large furniture from here anymore.
Not as good as hemnesDanielThe new hemnes is not the same as the old quality they started using this cheap stain finish. And this dresser is even worse. Very disappointed the old hemnes quality is gone now. IKEA won’t be the same as that was one of the top items.
Great dresser and clear instructionsLoriIt took some time to assemble, but I followed each step in the instruction manual and it came out perfect! Very solid construction so I'm sure it will last a very long time, like our other Ikea furniture.
