This bookshelf is worth the moneyDondaThis bookshelf is easy to put together. It's budget friendly. The only drawback is all shelves are fixed shelving, there are no adjustable shelves.

Pass on this one…JoyI’m a loyal IKEA shopper going on three decades now, and still own and use my Expedit bookcase as well as several other IKEA furniture pieces. Don’t bother buying this particular bookcase. It looks cheap and flimsy when assembled, reeks of particle board (much more than other IKEA furniture I’ve assembled), and isn’t remotely sturdy / it wobbles a LOT. (Probably bolted to the wall it would look and function better; it does come with the hardware for that.) Wobbling is slightly reduced when it’s loaded with books. The other problem with it is that the shelves are really shallow / not deep at all… I measured and they’re about 9” deep, which means that any larger size book or kids picture book will hang over the edge and not be cozy and contained in the bookcase. Ugh. I’m returning fully assembled for a refund. (This is the first piece of IKEA furniture that’s disappointed me!)
Billy is better, but these will doBrandiI bought these because I needed something smaller than the Billy bookcase for my project. I would prefer the Billy if it had fit. These are fine, but the shelves are not at all adjustable. And the screws are very visible on the sides, not hidden like with Billys.
I also ran into trouble assembling them — I turned them face down to tack in the back, and the shelves shifted out of place while doing so, so they were nailed in unlevel. The instructions would have warned me, I have just put together so many Billys, where it’s not a problem, that I didn’t notice until it was too late. So cautionary tale for anyone reading this — only tack the back to the sides and middle (screwed in) shelf.
All that said, they seem reasonably study and will hold your books just fine.

Gersby BCaseAnonymousI really like the Gersby bookcases and they worked great for the project I needed to do. They were a good price and was able to get them delivered. The only thing I wish they had, would have had more options to adjust the shelves as there is only one height instead of multiple heights.

Great bookcase for small spaceKathrynThis bookcase is somewhat shallow yet still able to hold all of my books—including larger art books/coffee table books. Very sturdy. Holds a lot. Takes up little space in my small living room. Will eventually replace all of my bookcases with this model.
Inexpensive and it does the jobBarbThe screws were tough for me because of arthritis but I managed, THREE times. I needed storage for craft supplies so I got three Gersby units. Instructions were easy to follow, all parts were included. As suggested, I attached the units to the wall because they do wobble a bit. I'm very pleased with them. I would purchase again.

Inexpensive shelvingRichardLooks match the price. Easy to assemble except for nailing on the back, where careful placement of nails is critical. Shadow gaps between shelves and back panel and between back panel and side panels depend on nail placement; you can get a slight variation here that throws off the appearance just a bit. Not a fan of the fixes shelf spacing, even for removable shelves. My wife uses these in a closet for her handbags. She loves the shelves and they work very well for that purpose.

Material
What is particleboard?
Particleboard is made from recycled wood and sawmill leftovers – so wood pieces with the wrong shade, woodchips and sawdust become a resource instead of possibly being discarded. We use boards for things like bookcases, bed frames, sofas and kitchen frames. To protect from wear and moisture, we apply varnish, veneer or foil that adds to the furniture's look.
