I like itSergeyI think it is all right and final look is worth it. Corners worked out great for me, there is no good way to join them together in one long piece. Installation requires creativity and maybe some basic carpentry, so have right expectations,.4
Poorly engineered and fabricatedTammyBased on our previous experience with installing Ikea Sektion cabinetry, we decided to completely remodel our kitchen with Ikea. I loved the look of the decorative plinth in the showroom, so we bought enough to go around a peninsula and base cabinets on kitchen walls. There are several problems with the engineering: 1) The entire layout must be preassembled before putting it in place around the base cabinets. Therefore, angles and islands/peninsulas are virtually impossible to install as instructed. 2) In order to install and fasten across multiple cabinets, all the doors and cover panels need to be removed if previously installed. 3) The mitered corners are impossible to produce a clean joint due to two small L-brackets used on the back to join. Does not provide any support to keep the joint together, even when glued. 4) Assembled plinth hangs off the base cabinets and attaches to sides with brackets. This again does not provide any means to keep the bottoms in place. 5) Short returns have nothing to mount on. 6) Dishwasher plinth does not attach well to standard decorative plinth. 7) My husband is a skilled carpenter and we'll have to do a LOT of finishing work on the mitered corners and joints to get to a quality baseboard look. With taping/prepping the cuts and using proper equipment, the plastic coating leaves a ragged edge. I purchased upgraded cabinets and accessories to have an upscale kitchen. All other components are great, but I am so disappointed with the finished look of the cabinet base. I do not recommend purchasing or installing this decorative plinth. I would build and install custom baseboard which would be more attractive, easier to install, and less expensive than the Ikea solution.1
pretty but challengingAnonymousThis method of finishing the cabinet looks fantastic, more like a piece of furniture. However, here are somethings to keep in mind. 1. This piece hangs off the existing cabinetry. So if your floors are not completely level, you'll have gaps in some places on the floor and it will sit flush on others. 2. The pictures show it setting out away from the cabinetry. When we installed it was flush once the cabinetry doors were on. 3. if you have any side panels you must install this first (we made this mistake). All in all they are pretty. Because we have uneven floors we had to add a corner round piece to the entire kitchen. We made it out of the cornice strips (deco strips) that are used on the top of the wall cabinets. We ripped it to the size we liked and added it as a corner round piece. Still looks good, but not exactly the look I was going for. Oh well, old houses are never level!3
Terrible productAnonymousThis toe kick is difficult to install. Once installed the cut exposed edges fray making it look terrible. It sits flush with the cupboard and is therefore always being kicked (very annoying). Go with the basic toe kick, not only is it less expensive, it's easier to install and looks good.1
