Worst desk lamp ever boughtRuiThe lamp does not have light bulb involved. The recommended bulb is E17 as illustrated in the instruction. However, if you bought one E17 from IKEA, you would be surprised that it doesn't fit at all. The accurate size is E12, which you cannot find it from anywhere. Would give zero stars if the system allows me to do so. Shame on you, IKEA for selling such unusable lamp.1
What a valueChristineI bought this as a mini spotlight underneath my glass desktop to illuminate 2 acrylic bookends. I know this is an odd use but boy is it perfect for the job. Has a small footprint and blends in well with other white office accessories (it’s more of an eggshell white). Very pleased. 5
I wouldn't buy again.CharlieIt took me longer than the return period for my dissatisfaction to reach the point where I would return the item, but I have gotten there. I think brightness wise, it's great. I do a wide variety of small precision-required crafting, such as sketching, origami, miniatures, and needlepoint, to name a few! This is nice for that, but the design makes it hard sometimes to use it. I craft at my computer desk a lot, so I can use the computer at the same time, and the base design really limits where I can put the lamp. For example, you can't snug a sketchbook close up to the base. My keyboard is constantly in the way of it.
Also, I'm very concerned about the heat/fire hazard I see reported. Going to take mine apart to make sure I have the right wattages!3
Lighting my projectNancyLove this lamp. Most of all the adjustable way this lamp can be moved is great.5
Great Lamp! Be careful of mislabeled wattage.C.I got two of these lamps during my last IKEA trip because they were on sale for $9.99 and I needed a smaller desk lamp that worked with an LED bulb.
I only ran into one issue: the recommended light bulb printed on the box has not only the wrong lightbulb listed, but the wrong wattage rating. The box said up to 8.5W, while printed on the lamp itself it is actually a maximum 5.3W. All I had to do was run to Lowe's and get the correct bulbs and the lamp works perfectly.
With the correct wattage, the lamp does NOT get hot. I can even touch it with my fingers after it's been on for hours. I like that it's lightweight, small, and works great as either as a spotlight for reading/writing. OR I can flip it up toward the ceiling and it makes great mood lighting.4
Fire hazard!AndrewPut an IKEA E17 bulb in. The top of the lamp melted onto the bulb within 1 hour of use. Super dangerous.1
Not white, BLURGH BEIGEAnonymous reviewerThe photo makes it look like a white lamp, but upon opening the package I see it is a dirty-looking beige plastic. I will return it.1
FeasibleAnonymous reviewerNeeds a little bit weight on the base due to long wire 4
too bright to be a desk lamp, good for readingDominiquethankfully it now comes with the lightbulb in the package. i do wish the whole thing was made out of metal because i am concerned that the shade will possible melt like other reviewers said, so far it’s been ok but i haven’t had it on for hours at a time yet. i wanted this as an ambient light but it will be more like a reading light. too easy to knock over but great for minimalists or smaller living spaces in general. great if you’re on a budget but would recommend if you’re looking softer lighting.4
Great lightMaryThis light puts out great light. Make sure you pick up the light bulb for this light when you purchase it. Hard bulb to find.5
Too much a spotlightCandiceIt is bright enough but not good for a desk lamp. 3
Universal swivel head metal lampPamelaFlottilj is a style icon. The lamp is metal, easy to assemble and sturdy. Buy the recommend light bulb. We love ours. Bright to read by. Can use as uplight spot light.5
Doesn't take regular bulbsForrestIt wasn't until I got it home that I discovered it takes only very rare E17 (intermediate base) light bulbs instead of normal E26 (medium base) light bulbs. Now I am stuck with 2 that I will never use.1
MehSusanThis is a cute lamp for sure. Disappointed that the shade is plastic & you have to take it apart to install the lightbulb. Also, the heavy black cord is ugly (clear would have been better) and the placement of the in-line switch will make arranging this on furniture a challenge. The required bulb is expensive & rare.3
