Difficult leg assemblyRyanthere are no provided holes for screws for the legs on the eket. You will have to make your own, creating a mess and adding much more time and difficulty to the installation. If you are expecting a seamless setup, you will be severely disappointed. This one thing has made this by far the most difficult piece of ikea furniture I’ve had to assemble, out of dozens of pieces over the years.2
extremely difficult, almost impossible, to buildKeeleyi think the average person, so little to no experience with furniture assembly, would find this piece EXTREMELY challenging. i still haven't figured it out between the bewildering directions and requirement of specific tools (remember when you didn't need those for ikea furniture assembly??). I've found the door to the cubby particularly impossible. Maybe its a scam to get you to pay for Ikea's professional assembly. Ikea needs to improve this item or get rid of it looking at all the other reviews.2
Looks nice… if you can manage to assemble itPeriextremely difficult to get the pieces together. The instructions make it look like everything just slides together, but you WILL need to use a mallet to force them in place. I've built several other Ikea pieces and none were as difficult as this. It's a fine piece once you've put it together but assembly is a nightmare. The door latch also didn't work great, needed some WD-40 to not get stuck.3
TerribleSamuelAwful. Do not buy. Terrible construction. D-1
Compact functional storageCeceliaI purchased EKET for storage of my cookbooks. It makes it easy to place my most used books in the open area and stash away the rest. The white color compliments my kitchen nicely. Well made and easy to clean. Thanks for a very nice product!5
Literally unbuildable... by designJulianWhoever designed this needs to be unemployed. The last side of the box cannot slide on with the back peice in place. Do not buy at all costs.1
Love the final product but hard to assemble LandrieThe end result is exactly what I expect and wanted. It's easy and difficult to put together. Easy because it's just sliding five (six if you have the door) pieces together. Difficult because you have to push with all your might to get them together. Putting on the last side feels impossible. You can't use a hammer only your own body weight. One of my cabinets was easier than the other. But after an hour and some sweat, it's all done and you don't have to deal with it anymore! 4
Not designed with female customers in mindKellyThe two I bought are together and do their job, but I am not a fan of having to ask my husband's help to assemble. I have put together dozens of Ikea cabinets with no issue (kitchen and bath), along with an ungodly amount of office furniture, but this... the last step in the assembly of each cube requires a stupid amount of force. Probably why there are only guys putting these together on YouTube. Also, the yellow is not the same - very pale and washed out. A real shame as the dimensions are what I need for the smaller space I have. Will have to look at something else for the wall storage. Not putting myself through that 8 more times. Additionally, the connectors do not prevent shifting, the foil can get pushed forward slightly during assembly and each of the 4 cubes have one spot that doesn't go quite flush. Drives my OCD squirrel brain nuts. And no, I am not driving 8 hours to do a return.3
Do not buy JasonThis is difficult to build and boxes do not include table legs. Does not fit well at all - bought a lot of things and hope they are better than this.. 1
Absolute GarbageMarkThis is an awful design. Mine wouldn’t align correctly which led to breaking off a piece of the particle board. Neared IKEA location is too far to return so I’ll have to eat the cost. 1
needs work on the latchesPamelaWe have two of these and have been using them for nearly 5 years. I love their size and how they look. My only issue that has grown more annoying with time is the cabinet latch. I would love another one, maybe one that is just a static magnet? but the latches aren't sold separately as far as I can find. It's a shame because it's otherwise a fantastic bedside table.3
too hard to put togetherYifantoo hard to put together3
Makes a great nightstand!BrianaIt's the perfect size for my small bedroom. I got it in green/white, and the color is so pretty. This is my first Ikea furniture, so I was wary about the assembly, but the instructions were very straightforward. The only issue I had was the legs since there were no pre-drilled holes, but I managed. Otherwise, I recommend it to anybody looking for a lovely, simple, elegant nightstand!5
Great product.KarlaGreat product.5
Nightstands because mattress are so highNancyI was having a hard time finding nightstands for my rental. I needed something high & small but sturdy.5

Accessories for EKET

EKET Storage combination with legs, white/white stained oak effect, 13 3/4x13 3/4x31 1/2 "

From grandfather's fishing boxes to playful storage

When product developer Petra Kammari Enarsson was a young student and often moved, she used to furnish her apartments with old fishing boxes given to her by her grandfather who lived on the west coast of Sweden. Years later, when Petra was developing the new EKET storage series, those boxes came to mind. How could she make the series as flexible as the boxes?

New technologies, new hobbies, a new family member ... both small and large changes affect life and people's needs at home, especially when it comes to all the things that we need space for. Petra Kammari Enarsson is a product developer at IKEA and often visits the homes of customers to experience their everyday living and how good storage can make life at home a little easier. She remembers a family in Copenhagen which expanded every other weekend with the daughter from a previous relationship. ”She didn't have her own room, but the family had a solution where she had a loft bed in the living room and her private things were in a chest on the floor”. Petra thinks it's a good example of how more and more people are living in small spaces, and that a large part of everyday living takes places in the living room where we want things to be both practical and stylish.

Flexible furniture for new needs

Another obvious trend around the world is that many people move more often - just as Petra did when she was young. ”The problem is that a lot of storage furniture is so inflexible – upon moving or new needs arising, they can't be adapted. This means storage isn't optimal and it's difficult to keep track of all your things”. These insights inspired Petra and her colleagues to start looking at a more flexible and personal storage solution – something that can easily be updated so that people don't have to buy new furniture as soon as something in life changes. Petra then started to think about those fishing boxes she had when she was young and which were so easy to stack and move as needed. What if you could make a piece of furniture which consists of various smart modules that can be easily moved around, removed and added to?

Building with blocks

Petra and her team started by ordering cardboard boxes in various sizes. They took the boxes to different room environments where they moved them around like building blocks – stacking and combining them in various ways. The team also researched detailed facts about storage: on average, how many magazines do we have at home? What’s the ideal height for people to put down their mobile phones? ”Many of us put keys, telephones or bags in a specific place when we come home. We usually do it automatically, without thinking about it”, says Petra. The height that seems to suit most people is 31½", so a shelf at that height was a given in the mix of shelves, drawers and cabinets in different colors and styles that eventually became the EKET storage series. ”I'm so pleased that we chose to prioritize playfulness and freedom of choice with all the colors and sizes of EKET”, says Petra, who's looking forward to visiting more homes. ”I think that the customers will find lots of exciting combinations that we haven't even thought of!”.

What is constructed board?

We use constructed boards when manufacturing many of our pieces of furniture, such as tables and wardrobes. They are light yet still stable and strong. Each board has a frame made of chipboard, fiberboard or solid wood, while the inside is a honeycomb filling structure made of mostly recycled paper, which is extra durable thanks to its special construction. The board is then covered with a protective paint, foil or veneer depending on the style wanted.
