Putting together was a painKatherineIts so difficult to put together for something that's just supposed to "snap together". the plastic attachment grooves on the sides don't work nor fit together perfectly so a part of the sides don't lay flat with each other. Had to literally use a rubber mallet to force things to fit better. And even then they didn't line up correctly. Only reason I'm giving 3 stars is bc the assembly was the only problem I've had with it everything else was fine I guess.. 3
great piece for the price!ChristinaThis was a piece for our guest room. worked perfectly. Assembly is tricky when getting the corners to line up, but finally got it set. Looks great! Gives guest an option for their things and can store towels and blankets in the removable bins in the cubes.4
Doesn't come with connectorsDebraI ordered this set as pictured- with the cubed shelf connected to the one tall one with the door. I knew this would need to be connected, but nowhere in the description or "good to know" section told me that I needed to order the connectors as well. I've purchased similar furniture from IKEA in the past and connectors were provided for those. Not sure why this one doesn't come with it. It's really inconvenient because I had all parts delivered, and now I'm missing the connectors and need to make a trip out.2
Great Addition!!KylieGreat looking piece!! Took my time assembling due to not wanting to destroy any pieces. Would recommend!!5
Assembly makes this piece not worth itAlexisI bought this piece with expectations for assembly to be similar to the things I have bought from Ikea in the past - not the easiest but also not terrible if you have time and patience. However the assembly for this piece is honestly like torture. There really aren't any screws involved with this piece of furniture, just a lot of meeting the plastic ends in the holes and pushing them down to make it align. The pieces are not easy to align at all, I had to resort to a hammer which did the trick but damaged the piece of furniture itself so now I have a damaged piece of furniture, and good luck trying to get the last/final piece matched up and put together. Price is great and its not a bad piece but if I would have known what the assembly process would've been like before I purchased this I would not have bought it. Also, the door to my cabinet is unaligned due to bad pre-made holes and there's been nothing I can do to align it.2
Great entry area cabinetJamesI'm using this in my back door entry for shoes and recycling. It looks great and holds a lot. Some of the pieces put up some resistance during assembly. I used a rubber mallet and very gentle taps to get them set. Not all parts needed that. If you decide to buy taller feet you'll need 8 total. I bought a 4 pack and had to order another. The cubes and the cabinet don't attach to each other so they need their own feet.5
BadRyanit nearly impossible to assemble without destroying it, and it is totally incompatible with the glass window in the same series.1

From grandfather's fishing boxes to playful storage

When product developer Petra Kammari Enarsson was a young student and often moved, she used to furnish her apartments with old fishing boxes given to her by her grandfather who lived on the west coast of Sweden. Years later, when Petra was developing the new EKET storage series, those boxes came to mind. How could she make the series as flexible as the boxes?

New technologies, new hobbies, a new family member ... both small and large changes affect life and people's needs at home, especially when it comes to all the things that we need space for. Petra Kammari Enarsson is a product developer at IKEA and often visits the homes of customers to experience their everyday living and how good storage can make life at home a little easier. She remembers a family in Copenhagen which expanded every other weekend with the daughter from a previous relationship. ”She didn't have her own room, but the family had a solution where she had a loft bed in the living room and her private things were in a chest on the floor”. Petra thinks it's a good example of how more and more people are living in small spaces, and that a large part of everyday living takes places in the living room where we want things to be both practical and stylish.

Flexible furniture for new needs

Another obvious trend around the world is that many people move more often - just as Petra did when she was young. ”The problem is that a lot of storage furniture is so inflexible – upon moving or new needs arising, they can't be adapted. This means storage isn't optimal and it's difficult to keep track of all your things”. These insights inspired Petra and her colleagues to start looking at a more flexible and personal storage solution – something that can easily be updated so that people don't have to buy new furniture as soon as something in life changes. Petra then started to think about those fishing boxes she had when she was young and which were so easy to stack and move as needed. What if you could make a piece of furniture which consists of various smart modules that can be easily moved around, removed and added to?

Building with blocks

Petra and her team started by ordering cardboard boxes in various sizes. They took the boxes to different room environments where they moved them around like building blocks – stacking and combining them in various ways. The team also researched detailed facts about storage: on average, how many magazines do we have at home? What’s the ideal height for people to put down their mobile phones? ”Many of us put keys, telephones or bags in a specific place when we come home. We usually do it automatically, without thinking about it”, says Petra. The height that seems to suit most people is 31½", so a shelf at that height was a given in the mix of shelves, drawers and cabinets in different colors and styles that eventually became the EKET storage series. ”I'm so pleased that we chose to prioritize playfulness and freedom of choice with all the colors and sizes of EKET”, says Petra, who's looking forward to visiting more homes. ”I think that the customers will find lots of exciting combinations that we haven't even thought of!”.

What is constructed board?

We use constructed boards when manufacturing many of our pieces of furniture, such as tables and wardrobes. They are light yet still stable and strong. Each board has a frame made of chipboard, fiberboard or solid wood, while the inside is a honeycomb filling structure made of mostly recycled paper, which is extra durable thanks to its special construction. The board is then covered with a protective paint, foil or veneer depending on the style wanted.
