Reviews

I have four of theseJohnI love these so much that I now have four of them. Once I got the first one assembled, the other three were a piece of cake. They look sleek and work like a charm.5
Complete waste of money and timeNathanThis piece was a complete waste of money and time. The assembly is near impossible and I ended up giving up. I will probably put this in the garbage as I don't live anywhere near an IKEA to return it. I never thought putting a box together would ever be that hard, nor should it be as hard to put together as this is. I'm truly disappointed in the lack of thought and quality of this product.1
Great little cabinet AnthonyReally convenient cabinet that hides the items I need behind my home office desk 5
Worst IKEA assembly experience in 20 yearsThomasBought 3 of these - 2 were a nightmare to assemble and one was easy. Instructions aren't clear until you get to the end and realize you have to have the door holes on the opposite side from the door spring. The system for assembly is terrible and really should be redesigned. Won't buy these again. 1
Easier to assemble than I thoughtAnonymous reviewerAfter reading some of the reviews I was almost dreading assembling this little cube. But it was actually quite easy and went without a hitch. The cube turned out quite sturdy and looks great. Because it's particle board, it did leave a bit of a mess on the rug, but that's really the only negative. Otherwise, it's a great little storage cube, and I highly recommend it.5
Very Poor Design/Extremely FlimsyBiaI have loved everything IKEA for the past 23 years. This is unbelievably disappointing. I was expecting for it to be similar to Kallax in quality but not even close. The structure material is just above the denseness of cork and was literally falling apart during assembly. The holes that you slide the panels together into did not match and turned to sawdust at first attempt to connect making them too large to hold panels in place. Beveled corners are a bad idea to begin with but the connecting method defies reason. This is amateur student "concept" project quality. HOW did this pass quality control???1
5 stars for the appearance if built accurately & 2-3 stars for the assembly processMamieI was determined to make this work. I bought a total of 8-10 of these squares. Some with the door and most without the door. My advice, FOLLOW THE VISUAL INSTRUCTIONS TO A "T". Especially, begin with the panel marked with number "1". THE CUBE: Begin w/Panel labeled 1. Insert the panels (the ones w/out the plugs) on each side of panel 1. I had to use a rubber mallet to get the panels to line up w/corners flushed. Do it in the back of the box. These are laminates, they chip, break or crack if too aggressive w/assembly. I noticed that w/ of all of these EKET boxes I bought, not all of the prefilled holes were accurately drilled. This made it difficult for some of the cubes to be assembled correctly. Some cubes were predrilled correctly, so made for accurate assembly. EKET w/Door: Before you begin the actual assembly, do a dry run. Look at where the latch on the door goes & where the door hinges will go. I built 3. I messed up 2 of these w/door latch/hinges. Ok in the end 5
Wow!DeniseLove these with Eket wood legs. Have several set up around the living room. Perfect! Good hide-away for belongings. Honest, after assembling the first, it was 5 minutes to assembly all others.5
Great lookFiorellaWe built a combination of different cubes in our kids' playroom and it turned out so cool. The only issue we had is that the door magnet that keeps the door shut for one of the cubes is not working properly. We will be contacting customer service for a replacement. 4
Easy to put togetherElitaI was nervous purchasing two of these after reading the reviews but I didn’t have a difficult time putting this together. I recommend you use a rubber mallet cushioned with a towel to help slide the pieces into place but otherwise, it was a walk in the park. Remember to purchase the eket connectors separately if you plan to have two or more next to each other. 5
Perfect StorageDavidaThe EKET cube can work perfectly in multiple rooms- dining room, living room, bedroom. I use mine at the top of my closet to store hats, beanies, gloves, etc. Very easy to assemble too.5
Storage binsReginaThese storage cubes are perfect for storing all types of stuff or just for hiding things. Love the push mechanism to open and close the doors - very convenient5
Love itDenverBeautiful and they work great4
As always, the instructions areMonicaAs always, the instructions are so difficult to understand. Parts should be marked if the instructions do not want to have any words. All IKEA products are nearly impossible to put together and if put together incorrectly it is impossible to undo without breaking the plastic pieces. Not sure why I keep buying from IKEA. Once put together it did look nice and served by purpose.2
Great For OrganizingSueLove the Ekets! Easy to put together. Just wish it was easier to have them shipped for a reasonable price. Pick up is great if you don't live 3 hours away.5
Love these! Using in mySueLove these! Using in my craft room and they are working great.5
Perfect for snacks.AshleyHave a TV room and like to keep some waters and sealed snacks, keeps them out of the way but easily accessible. Door is super easy to use and adjust.5
impossible to assembleChiayuthose who said theirs are fine, I believe they are lucky to have the accurate products. I follow the instruction precisely and it still doesn't fit even with the help of the hammer. Never had any issue assmebly any idea products, I put the queen storage bed all together on my own with no prior familiarity with the electronic screw drivers and all, even that is simpler than this.1
perfect sizeBarbaraYour stock was running low on what I really wanted so I settled for this and it does work perfectly. I wanted black. I have a couple of others that I really love.5
Missing parts, impossible assembly, at least it looks nice.AlexandriaI drove two hours to Ikea to purchase the in-stock (according to app) Eket system. Upon arriving, checking the app for the location, I only found this one gray cabinet with door. I reluctantly bought this piece after learning the rest of the Eket system was out of stock....The particle board is sturdier than I expected, but proved the assembly to be impossible. Three of my "snap in" holes were not properly drilled, so I needed to carefully carve them and use a rubber mallet to make-do. All of that to discover the insert piece for the door (the one mechanism that allows the door to open and close... the whole point of the product... the one piece that renders the product useful to it's purpose) was missing, along with the wall-mounting materials. Do I go through the trouble of disassembling the product and drive all the way back to return it? Or do I drive back for the missing parts in the chance they're out of stock? I had such high hopes... but now I'm disappointed and discouraged.3

EKET Cabinet with door, white, 13 3/4x13 3/4x13 3/4 "

From grandfather's fishing boxes to playful storage

When product developer Petra Kammari Enarsson was a young student and often moved, she used to furnish her apartments with old fishing boxes given to her by her grandfather who lived on the west coast of Sweden. Years later, when Petra was developing the new EKET storage series, those boxes came to mind. How could she make the series as flexible as the boxes?

New technologies, new hobbies, a new family member ... both small and large changes affect life and people's needs at home, especially when it comes to all the things that we need space for. Petra Kammari Enarsson is a product developer at IKEA and often visits the homes of customers to experience their everyday living and how good storage can make life at home a little easier. She remembers a family in Copenhagen which expanded every other weekend with the daughter from a previous relationship. ”She didn't have her own room, but the family had a solution where she had a loft bed in the living room and her private things were in a chest on the floor”. Petra thinks it's a good example of how more and more people are living in small spaces, and that a large part of everyday living takes places in the living room where we want things to be both practical and stylish.

Flexible furniture for new needs

Another obvious trend around the world is that many people move more often - just as Petra did when she was young. ”The problem is that a lot of storage furniture is so inflexible – upon moving or new needs arising, they can't be adapted. This means storage isn't optimal and it's difficult to keep track of all your things”. These insights inspired Petra and her colleagues to start looking at a more flexible and personal storage solution – something that can easily be updated so that people don't have to buy new furniture as soon as something in life changes. Petra then started to think about those fishing boxes she had when she was young and which were so easy to stack and move as needed. What if you could make a piece of furniture which consists of various smart modules that can be easily moved around, removed and added to?

Building with blocks

Petra and her team started by ordering cardboard boxes in various sizes. They took the boxes to different room environments where they moved them around like building blocks – stacking and combining them in various ways. The team also researched detailed facts about storage: on average, how many magazines do we have at home? What’s the ideal height for people to put down their mobile phones? ”Many of us put keys, telephones or bags in a specific place when we come home. We usually do it automatically, without thinking about it”, says Petra. The height that seems to suit most people is 31½", so a shelf at that height was a given in the mix of shelves, drawers and cabinets in different colors and styles that eventually became the EKET storage series. ”I'm so pleased that we chose to prioritize playfulness and freedom of choice with all the colors and sizes of EKET”, says Petra, who's looking forward to visiting more homes. ”I think that the customers will find lots of exciting combinations that we haven't even thought of!”.

What is constructed board?

We use constructed boards when manufacturing many of our pieces of furniture, such as tables and wardrobes. They are light yet still stable and strong. Each board has a frame made of chipboard, fiberboard or solid wood, while the inside is a honeycomb filling structure made of mostly recycled paper, which is extra durable thanks to its special construction. The board is then covered with a protective paint, foil or veneer depending on the style wanted.
