Pieces don’t fit together KimberlyTried to fit two of these together earlier today and the holes on the outside pieces are drilled incorrectly and it cannot be assembled as is.
Won’t be returning due to the fact that I’ve already painted them but it’s still irritating that I now have to saw off the plastic joinery at one corner and glue two corners together instead of being able to assemble it normally.
Hopefully this was a temporary mistake and isn’t true of all of this style being sold.
Note to the person responding to these: TaskRabbit would not have been able to fix the holes and the joinery spacing not matching up, so please do not tell me I should have hired someone else to put together an incorrectly laid out puzzle.
Absolutely the worst purchase from ikeaEmilyFollowed the instructions and to save money on hex screws they’ve done this brute force model of putting the shelf together. The pieces don’t align properly and won’t fit together. I’m so aggravated. I won’t buy from ikea again.
EhhEricacouldn’t get the pieces to connect.. so i returned it but otherwise loved the color. perfect size for what i would’ve used it for. felt semi sturdy for it to particleboard.
Pay close attention to the piecesRachelI'm so glad I read reviews before ordering, so I knew how important it was to find the piece marked #1 (it's not clear - also check to make sure the groove is deeper on the piece than on any others). You must start with this piece or you're doomed. If you start with #1 and also pay close attention to the spacing on the dowel placement for the shelves (the inside only fits one way, but it's not easy to see at first), then building it should go smoothly. It's exactly what I needed and will be purchasing another unit.
Impossible to put togetherMarcusI bought this with the cabinet with door combo and legs. I put the 2 compartment cabinet together with no problems. The trouble all started with 4 compartment cabinet.. all the other reviews are spot on with this snap together system.. the holes don't line up with the plastic snaps that are pre-inserted that hold these things together. After drilling and smacking with a rubber mallet, the thing would still not piece together and i pretty much destroyed the bottom shelf. Finally I just broke off all of the plastic snaps and and screwed the thing together. Now i'm stuck with a cruddy looking cabinet that's all busted up. Would not recommend, Ikea should pull this system from it's inventory or just switch how this is fastened together to be more like Kallax.
Hard to put together BridgetteSeveral of the holes were not right so it was very hard to put together. We got two and both were the same.
Nice storage, easy assembly KenThe EKET 4 section cabinet is a nice cabinet and with the optional legs makes a very appealing addition, we use it for a bookcase. It was not difficult to assemble but I am skeptical of how the locking joints will stand up over time, being simply slots in the press board material.
Agree with Just Don't.ThereseImpossible to put together, one side doesn't fit perfectly no matter how many times you disassemble and assemble. I gave up, didn't put legs on and since it's not connected perfectly, have it flush to floor and pushed against the wall. I'm disappointed, my first Ikea purchase that just didn't work!
Tricky, but great for matching night stands. NatividadI assembled 2 of these, so I realized the assembly is very specific. Look at all the instructions and verify you have the correct pieces going together. The second time was a lot easier. Feels sturdy. I added wood feet and looks great in the brown walnut. Use it for books or add a pull out bin to allow easy access for items. Plenty of space on top for a lamp, phone, and frequently used items. My bed is on a high rack, so the height matches the top of my mattress. It’s an attractive and functional shelf.
Just. Don't.DeborahA nightmare to try to assemble. I have another 4-cube Eket cabinet that I bought a few years ago and was able assemble easily, but the design has changed, I'm guessing to make it cheaper, and it is now next to impossible to assemble. This recent one I've assembled and disassembled twice and reassembled three times and the corners still don't meet and the backing board doesn't fit. It's now trash. I wish I could just get my money back. I've been an IKEA customer for decades and have assembled lots of furniture, but I now hesitate to buy more because I wonder if all their furniture is now more cheaply made. Such a disappointment when a previously good brand is ruined.
Just what I needed JerryI put plastic on top so spills and cold glasses wouldn’t stain it. I put casters on the bottom, so I can easily move it (as a side table to my recliner. I put file folder racks on two sides. It’s working out great!
helped me get organizedLyneaa great asset to my sewing room
Poor Product - Avoid At All Costs TimothyThis is not worth it. The design is incredibly poor and has caused me several hours of frustration. There are videos on other websites that attempt to troubleshoot this, and yes technically in the paper instructions it points out using one piece at the bottom, but the fact that if the piece is not assembled correctly on the first attempt your backing will never fit is an inexcusably bad design flaw. I would rate this product a 0/5 if I could.
Simply buy another product is the short version. Any product that has several dedicated hate pages online is not worth any of your time. Please learn from my mistake.
Absolutely TrashKimberlyThis piece of ikea equipment is just straight up trash. Never have I had such bad experience with putting a piece of furniture together. It clips, falls apart and nothing in the instructions is helpful at all as to how this is put together. It’s not work 140$ as a set. Go to target by there and save yourself the misery of this THING. This is something you gift your worst enemy
Absolute garbageAnonymous reviewerBuy the four cube Kallax instead. It is higher quality and less expensive. My fiancée bought this after I bought the kallax 4 cube thinking it was the same. If you don’t start with the side labeled 1, it’s all over and you will go mad trying to assemble the final top side. The designer should be taken outside and put out of his misery. I have never been filtered by an ikea furniture piece prior to this. In my defense my fiancée messed it up prior to my attempts to fix
What a piece of junk!JonasThis is the most impossible piece of furniture to put together! The holes don’t match, the back panel broke in half.
I had to throw it in the garbage. What a terribly made item. This is garbage!
A new method of fastening that makes assembly much trickierMichaelIf you follow the directions very closely, it will work, but otherwise assembly will be like some difficult 3-D puzzle. The 4 sides of the cabinet are not the same and it's important to find the faint numeral '1' printed one of the sides, and start assembly with that side. It would be so helpful if the instructions were written out in plain language because the pictorial instructions that IKEA has always used are not adequate for this new method of fastening.
Wonderful!RadhaPurchased four of these to create shelving by the window in my living room. I was nervous about larger and heavier art books not fitting in the bottom cubbies or making the structure unstable and that isn't the case at all. Phew! :)
Absolutely terrible to put together and peices aren't sized correctlyAlisaI have put together many ikea peices before and I have never been so frustrated in my life. The back peice was cut slightly too large, so you cannot put the top on. It led to a lot of damage trying to put the final peice on. We kept thinking we were doing something wrong. The whole time, the back was about half a centimeter too tall. The second we removed the backing as some reviews have suggested, it fit together perfectly. Lots of frustration for a poorly cut peice of cardboard. Without the backing, this peice is wobbly, and the damage from trying to assemble this is visible. I do not recommend this product. I suppose the reviews that say excellent and easy to put together had the proper sizings of pieces. But for $60 there should be much better quality control.
