JunkKandaceI love lots of IKEA items, but this thing is pure junk. I also had a great deal of trouble trying to slide the last piece in. And then the particleboard area where the piece fits just crumbled. Completely unusable. Doubt that I can return it since it's now broken. I have never written a negative review for their products. This one is awful!1
Impossible to Put Together MichellePro: Lovely yellow color. Good size Con: Could not put this together. The pieces would not slot into place no matter how hard I pushed. Very poorly executed. It’s getting returned. 1
Love these! Follow directions pleaseJohnThese cubes are my favorite for displaying books/movies/records/ and collectibles. I hang them on the wall and they look great! The people saying the back piece is hard to put on are simply not following directions. The directions tell you exactly which piece you need to place. Starting with 1 and following an order. You can’t just put the pieces together randomly. Look at the pictures in the directions and how the pieces with the holes go. If you do the last piece fits very easily.5
The negative reviews were rightCarolineI followed the instructions to the letter and the fourth piece just will not slide into place. I'm adding a star because its still functional even with the back board not perfectly aligned, but this cube really needs to go back to the IKEA drawing board. I'd rather put together a daybed than this.2
The worst thing to assemble MythiliI don’t know how this could pass QC, in fact it shouldn’t even pass basic CAD tolerance check because the last piece is impossible to slot in after adding the backplate. If anyone is reading this which I am sure they are not, you please tell me how step 5 is possible for a human. You must be kidding. Total waste is time. We never buy IKEA anymore for this reason. 0 star.1
I wish it came in blackAnonymous reviewerI like that the BESTA planner allows mixing with the EKET, but it's really annoying that it doesn't come in black like the BESTA and the KALLAX do. What's also really annoying is that the room planning tools aren't integrated with the storage planning tools. Even keeping all the storage planners as their own things I would like to be able to input the design code into the room planner so I can see how it looks IN THE ROOM, especially since the storage planners don't even allow for doors or windows or unusually shaped rooms4
Cheap LP storage…kindaChrisBought these to store my record collection as I didn’t like the chunk look of the Kallax. In ordered 7 of these and had no problem assembling them. Really don’t understand the people who find these difficult. Key is setting the pieces upright on the floor and pushing straight down to engage the locking pins. My one issue with these is that the inside will hold 90% of my records but there are some which are a bit too tall so the records have to be at a slight angle to fit in. 4
Compromised Design DarnayI bought this in spite of the complaints about building it, because I liked how it looked and I also wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Well they were right, building this product was not the enjoyable experience I'm used to. I think the problem is that the cardboard backing piece needed to mount the Eket to the wall literally prevents you from sliding the last panel into place. I really think the cardboard backing and mounting functionality was an afterthought for legal reasons and unfortunately this product went to market before they truly had it figured out. Luckily for me it's pretty low profile and mounting wasn't necessary, so I was able to omit the cardboard backing and the last piece slipped into place just fine. Not the clever, thoughtful design Ikea is known for though, I hope they're planning a 2.0 version sooner than later.3
True Step CubesAnonymous reviewerThese are similar to cubo cubes I purchased roughly 18 years ago. The cubes allow you to configure your cabinets as you want - you are not stuck with the configuration the manufacturer chooses. They are a bit of challenge to assemble. *IF* you follow the directions and have a rubber mallet, it is doable. Looking forward to using these in more spaces.5
Production description didn't matchPriyankaColor is very different than shown on the Website 2
Hard to assemble PrincessDoes not fit correctly. You really have to force it and it’s frustrating. Something that should only take a few minutes to build ended up taking longer. Will be returning this product1
Nightmare to put togetherKrassiI am very handy when it comes to assemble any furniture but this cube is just junk. I do not recommend this cube.1
These are great qualityHueThe white oak effect matches my LVP floors. They are easy to put together. Line it up so it’s straight, and simply use a mallet or hammer to tap it in place. I just used a hammer and it didn’t damage the finish at all. If it lines up nicely before you tap it in, it will line up when it’s assembled. They slide right in; so don’t force it. Obviously put them together in the right order based on instructions 5
AvoidJasonGreat in theory, but oddly difficult to assemble.1
Just rightDeniseFirst time buy from IKEA. We don't have a local store, but do have a local delivery spot. It worked great. I ordered 6 boxes in yellow. The color is great. Packaging was protective, and no adhesive tape! I was able to carefully open the cardboard boxes to preserve them as they will make nice temporary storage for odd sized items. The EKET cabinets are substantial in weight and sturdy. My first assembly was a learning experience, as I inadvertently tried it out of correct sequence. Once I amended my procedure per the directions, they were easy to assemble. Everything fit fine, and the finished product does not wobble or sway. Very happy with this purchase and shipping procedure.5
AwfulSamuelThis is a simple design that is frustrating to assemble. I do not recommend this product. I give it a D-1
Lovely color AllisonWe mounted these next both sides of our bed for elevated storage space. We paired them with the cream colored Eket Wall-mounted storage combination, with 2 drawers. The olive color is a nice touch. We do recommend this product and would purchase again in the future. 5
Hard to assemble KarenThe new design on pegs and holes to build these are easy and fast for the first 3 sides then impossible to line up the last panel with the pegs and back panel 😭1
as exxpectedRootNice and clean lines 5
Follow the directions and read the hints from commenters! BethFess up. How many of you 1-star reviewers and complainers didn’t first look carefully at the pieces, orient them correctly and read the directions?! No, it’s not intuitive. But it took my husband about 4 minutes to put together after doing the anbove annd reading comments with hints about piece number 1. It’s the key to cube nirvana. Do not muscle in thinking it’s obvious. One star off what’s a 5-star piece because this simple cube flabbergasted so many people. Ikea, you have to know your audience. I’m using the cube to hold a router and modem plus a couple cords/bricks in my office. We added a wide hole in the back for cords. Almost left the back off but figured it was good for stability. 4

From grandfather's fishing boxes to playful storage

When product developer Petra Kammari Enarsson was a young student and often moved, she used to furnish her apartments with old fishing boxes given to her by her grandfather who lived on the west coast of Sweden. Years later, when Petra was developing the new EKET storage series, those boxes came to mind. How could she make the series as flexible as the boxes?

New technologies, new hobbies, a new family member ... both small and large changes affect life and people's needs at home, especially when it comes to all the things that we need space for. Petra Kammari Enarsson is a product developer at IKEA and often visits the homes of customers to experience their everyday living and how good storage can make life at home a little easier. She remembers a family in Copenhagen which expanded every other weekend with the daughter from a previous relationship. ”She didn't have her own room, but the family had a solution where she had a loft bed in the living room and her private things were in a chest on the floor”. Petra thinks it's a good example of how more and more people are living in small spaces, and that a large part of everyday living takes places in the living room where we want things to be both practical and stylish.

Flexible furniture for new needs

Another obvious trend around the world is that many people move more often - just as Petra did when she was young. ”The problem is that a lot of storage furniture is so inflexible – upon moving or new needs arising, they can't be adapted. This means storage isn't optimal and it's difficult to keep track of all your things”. These insights inspired Petra and her colleagues to start looking at a more flexible and personal storage solution – something that can easily be updated so that people don't have to buy new furniture as soon as something in life changes. Petra then started to think about those fishing boxes she had when she was young and which were so easy to stack and move as needed. What if you could make a piece of furniture which consists of various smart modules that can be easily moved around, removed and added to?

Building with blocks

Petra and her team started by ordering cardboard boxes in various sizes. They took the boxes to different room environments where they moved them around like building blocks – stacking and combining them in various ways. The team also researched detailed facts about storage: on average, how many magazines do we have at home? What’s the ideal height for people to put down their mobile phones? ”Many of us put keys, telephones or bags in a specific place when we come home. We usually do it automatically, without thinking about it”, says Petra. The height that seems to suit most people is 31½", so a shelf at that height was a given in the mix of shelves, drawers and cabinets in different colors and styles that eventually became the EKET storage series. ”I'm so pleased that we chose to prioritize playfulness and freedom of choice with all the colors and sizes of EKET”, says Petra, who's looking forward to visiting more homes. ”I think that the customers will find lots of exciting combinations that we haven't even thought of!”.

What is constructed board?

We use constructed boards when manufacturing many of our pieces of furniture, such as tables and wardrobes. They are light yet still stable and strong. Each board has a frame made of chipboard, fiberboard or solid wood, while the inside is a honeycomb filling structure made of mostly recycled paper, which is extra durable thanks to its special construction. The board is then covered with a protective paint, foil or veneer depending on the style wanted.
