When my chatty cubicle neighbor comes by, I flip the hourglass (I timed it to 8 min. 5 sec.) and after the time is up I conspicuously go back to what I was doing... whether he's done chatting or not! hahaha, I love it. Aside from all that. I like the clean lines and sometimes zoning out while watching the sand fall. It can be pretty zen.5

Great decoration and helpful toolAmandaIt says it isn't meant to keep time, and I saw one review saying it was about two (2) minutes. I picked this up today and decided to run a stopwatch next to it as it ran; The actual time for this is closer to seven and a half (7 1/2) minutes. I like the weight and the design. The price is a bit high on it, but maybe because it is handmade and glass? Either way, getting this for décor or to use, it's good, just don't expect perfect timing with it.4

Material

What is glass?

Glass is mainly made of sand, soda, and lime melted at a high temperature. Tempering or various additives gives you extra-strong and impact-resistant glass that in some cases can be taken straight from freezer to oven without cracking. A big benefit is how glass can be recycled over and over without the quality deteriorating. Also, a lot less energy is needed to melt recycled glass compared to new raw materials. Our goal is to eventually use only recycled glass in our range.
