Worked out well for meMaryamHello! I was afraid to assemble my shelf for a good 2 weeks after I'd purchased it because of the reviews. Once I got the courage to, I could kind of understand people's concerns, only from my experience, my shelf sits just fine. If I physically shake it, it will shake lol. Other than that it isn't less stable than any other shelf. Naturally it's slender materials make make the difference. I assembled it with only myself and do plan to secure it to the wall. Want to be prepare for the apocalypse (earthquakes, yo know?). I have a busy 5 year old and I do not worry that it poses a threat to her playing around it. I did purchase mine after the restock. Unsure if that made a difference, though it seems like maybe someone may have returned this one as it has a nick or two. Still looks nice. I hope this helps someone.4
Please try againAnonymous reviewerI was so excited about this shelf and I turned out to be a complete hazard. Please recall this and reissue in a safer form with appropriate fixtures and less cheap materials. 1
DON’T BUY - Unstable and Not SafeAllenFirst off, I’d give it 0 stars if possible. And, this product is also being recalled in the EU, yet IKEA is selling it stateside.
As someone with the 2000s reissue this new version is horrible and I would not recommend buying unless you want a pretty item that will likely break your possessions and harm your animal (we have a cat). Unlike the 2000 reissue, this version is EXTREMELY UNSTABLE . The bars that are meant to hold up the boards are too short and therefore the moment you get it upright or place any object on it, the bars pop out from their slot/housing and the boards fall down without fail. This means you cannot have it as a freestanding shelf. It comes with wall anchors but when we tried this the boards still popped out. Nothing we tried worked - we even called IKEA support.
The 2000s reissue had 3 screws on each end of the board that kept it secure to the frame.
Very disappointed that IKEA would release a defective product with so much consumer interest. DON’T BUY!1
Great to look at but flawed designMonicaI was able to pick this up over the weekend and it took approx 50 min to assemble. The issues started when I went to move the shelf to its final home. As others have said, the brackets that hold the shelves fall out the second the shelf moves...it started with 1, and when I went to adjust it back into place, all of the other brackets fell out and caused it to collapse. I'm not sure who thought that having removeable brackets ILO welded in was a good idea, but it was not. I dont even know how this passed any kind of QC. This would be a dangerous piece of furniture if you have kids or even pets.
That being said, I am going to keep the shelf, as it is a piece I have had my eye on for many years. I ended up zip tying the part of the bracket that loops through to the frame, and that holds it in place very well. And might have the bracket welded in at a later time. BUT this isn't something I should have to be DIY'ing due to flawed design.2
Poorly made.MichaelaI was thrilled when I heard they were re-releasing this item. I've wanted this shelf for ages, and after four attempts, I finally managed to buy it and have it delivered. However, after assembling it, disassembling it, and reassembling it, I can confidently say this is the most unstable IKEA furniture I've ever encountered. The parts that connect to the base to support the shelf aren't long enough, causing them to pop out and the shelves to fall. This poses a significant safety risk, and honestly, I wish I could just get rid of it. Since I live three hours away from the nearest IKEA, returning it isn’t feasible. I’m extremely disappointed. 1
The biggest disappointment | Ikea failedJerenWas excited when I received this as a gift, The purchaser waited for it and I was so happy when I got it. Unfortunately, this has been one of the worst experiences with an ikea product I’ve ever had.
The shelf is severely unstable. It’s so bad that the shelf is borderline unusable. It is a dump of $100+ dollars for a product that cannot even do its basic function. Shame on ikea for putting this product out when it is very clearly manufactured improperly. Sad to see such a beautiful design get reworked only to be this flimsy.1
UnstableAlexThis shelf, like my last relationship, is flimsy and unstable. And also like my last relationship, quite a bit of effort to keep all together. Once again, I encounter disappointment and longing for something that seems beautiful and perfect—but alas, is not. Save your money, not worth the $150 + tax. 1
Pretty unstableSeanLike all the previous reviews said, this is a pretty unstable product. the shelves will fall off if you have to move the unit around. when they do fall, the paint on the shelves will get damaged. apparently they are relaunching it later this year. will probably replace it when version 2 is released.2
Pretty, but unstable ThyIt looks so fun, but just like many other experiences, mine was wobbly & flimsy. The chrome frame was different was from the vintage version. The parts were not carefully made; the short pieces used to attach the shelves to WILL fall down constant with any attempt to move it since they were too short. It might be a safety hazard if you have kids or cats. 2
UnstableKamalI really like this shelf and was excited for its re-release. I’m was trying to resist returning but the stability problems really outweigh how great the shelf looks. IKEA sadly fumbled this reissue of one of the best shelves they have ever made. I’ll buy again if they fix the problems. 1
Hold off on purchasing this!EvanJust picked this up yesterday and the build quality is horrible. This shelf is not stable enough to hold anything at the moment. If you google Byakorre recall, you'll find posts from reddit users stating the same quality issues. Also, There might be a possible recall happening as people are stating that the product has been pulled from multiple locations.1
Very wobbly. Don’t try to move it once assembled, it’ll collapse.BrychanDo not recommend. Not stable.
The screw mounting holes are also uneven, some screws are flush in the panels, others are mm embedded and not flush with the surface.
Even when assembled, and assembled correctly ensuring perfect alignment, the in it is *very* wobbly, and while it won’t collapse by itself, if you move it just an inch or so, the frame can come out of alignment and all the shelves fall, scraping away their edges.
IMO, the shelf brackets should be bolted in place on their rear side1
Unstable LarryThe shelves keep dropping. flaw in the design. 1
Love itTylerPerfect! and better than expected. A little tricky to put together but once figured out it was fine. Love it!!5
unfortunately.. disappointing Jordanbeen waiting for this drop and it’s painfully unstable - the slightest amount of movement makes the shelves fall down. definitely cannot float. devastating :’( 2
Beautiful but FlawedSteven I have mixed feelings about this product. On the one hand, it’s a beautifully designed piece that adds a lot of style and functionality to my space. The overall aesthetic is sleek and modern, and it fits perfectly with my decor.
However, the build quality leaves something to be desired. Some of the parts I received were defective—bars didn’t fully fit into the designated holes, which contributed to a slight wobble. While the wobble isn’t terrible and the shelf feels stable when stationary, it’s something to be mindful of, especially if you plan to use it without wall mounting.
Additionally, the process of getting replacement parts was frustrating. The missing parts aren’t listed in the manual, and Ikea couldn’t provide part numbers, but they did agree to send replacements, which I appreciated.
Overall, this is a great-looking shelf with some utility, but the inconsistent quality control and questionable parts might make it a gamble for some buyers.3
Cute but extremely flimsy and not secure. NeshaLove this design and was really excited to get this shelf. However, the overall structure is really flimsy and difficult to build. The bar that holds the shelf up kept falling out of the holes. Not sure why the shelf bars aren’t already welded into the stand to make it more secure. When I finally got the bars to stay in the hole I had to be very careful standing up the shelves so they wouldn’t fall out again. Overall, I don’t think this product is worth the $150, definitely could have been cheaper since the quality is not the best. 2
