Wood splinters made this unusable, strange constructionHAfter reading the reviews I thought this would be great replacement for a toddler instead of my glass VITTSJÖ circular table. In my experience, this is not the product. This item had shards of wood on the edge of both circular pieces that were only noticeable on assembly and handling. I kept assembling it thinking I would be able to sand it down later. Instead wood shards kept fracturing off in jagged edges. What should have been a quick construction was slowed by a weird design. You have to line up the metal threads without being able to see exactly where they fit through the wood and while pushing against the resistance of the legs bending inwards. I've assembled Ikea products for over 10 years. This product is a massive drop in quality. It looks fine, but I can't have a toddler handling this table with sharp shards of wood flaking off. I wanted a safe, non-toxic product and am now looking at buying a varnish to paint over these edges. Customer service online told me to return it. I explained that it left me with splinters and that it was be hard to disassemble. Sure I could now wear gloves and deal with this. I requested someone to collect it. No reply. For over $150, I do not expect to have to deal with these issues. I now have a table that left me with splinters in my hands for over a week. Depending on your use for this, it maybe suitable. The whole experience was disappointing, physically painful, and a waste of time.1

Material

What is veneer?

A veneer is a thin wooden sheet attached to things like particleboard to add a durable surface and a natural wood look – so we enjoy the many benefits of wood without using solid wood. The most common veneer types are birch, ash, oak, and beech, and we’ve made a special UV lacquer that helps preserve the wood's natural structure. A benefit with a slightly thicker veneer is how you can repair and sand the surface if it’s damaged to give furniture a longer and more beautiful life.

The dead space under the table top is great for storing bulky things – and the round shape makes the table easy to place in front of the sofa. Hopefully, many will like the table's double functionality and enjoy how it creates a nice atmosphere in the home thanks to the shape and choice of natural materials."
