Works with Samsung smarthings over threadGilbertI got this remote because it has matter over thread. I have a Samsung smart fridge with thread, which is my SmartThings hub. I thought it would take me a while to set it up, but nope, as soon as I put the battery in, I got the discovery notification, and it works way better than I expected. No Ikea hub needed.5
Great button - needs thread bridgeHarryI'm really happy with these buttons -- they've been easy to connect and I really appreciate the Matter + thread support so that I can use my existing HomePod mini as a bridge without having to buy Ikea's.5
Great value, works out of the box with Apple HomekitMichaelI bought four switches, all work and I appreciate the magnetic adhesive mount. For the price I have no complaints.5
Home Assistant userJordanTook some time to set up, bit is solid now. Very quick and never has lost connection. I'm loving it.5
No Google Home SupportRichardThe Matter-enabled BILRESA dual-button remote control is not compatible with Google Home. In attempting “Create an Automation” the button reports “Support coming soon”. How could IKEA fail so miserably in launching a product with no support for Google Home. In addition, the IKEA Home Smart app will not work with Matter devices unless a DIGERA hub is purchased, defeating the whole purpose of being a Matter-enabled device. However, as a product tester/reviewer, I have an isolated guest room with an Alexa Echo device. I was able to pair the BILRESA and set up Alexa Routines to control my TP-Link TAPO Matter-enabled lightbulbs. Once setup, I was able to turn on, then off, the lightbulbs (one task dedicated to each of the remote buttons) with the switch. In addition, using a second purchased BILRESA, I was able to set up a TP-Link Tapo Smart Power Plug to toggle it on/off with just one of the two buttons on the BILRESA.1
Excellent Button!MichaelI'm using several of these buttons with Home Assistant in different rooms of the house. It took a little while to get up and working (because my router was blocking matter/thread traffic), but once connected to the system it works reliably. Fantastic value.5
Unable to ConnectShashwatUnable to connect the remote to Tradfri Wireless Control. I bought the remote after consulting an employee in the store and she confirmed that it would work with wireless controller.1
Worse than Rodret: Thicker, 2AAA batteries, and Matter complexityScottThe product that this replaces, Rodret, was a nearly perfect Zigbee remote - sleek and reliable - with one big flaw: if you pressed too high or low, it would pop off its magnetic mount. Bilresa solves that with a better mount design, but takes two MASSIVE steps back: it now requires 2AAA batteries instead of just 1, and it drops support for widely supported Zigbee and instead requires complex and confusing “Matter over Thread”, so now you need yet another new hub. The whole appeal of IKEA’s smart home products was that Zigbee is stable and vendor agnostic, providing an alternative to brands that used WiFi and dropped support for their smart home products leaving customers stuck. IKEA joined all those other brands creating ewaste by switching to Matter for zero customer benefit. This device actually supports Zigbee, but only in an undocumented mode with a special pattern when pairing. Disappointing!3
The best yet!ColinWe've owned all of the IKEA steering devices, and this one feels and looks the most premium by far. It's small, it's responsive, and it was very easy to add to our smart home setup. Each button has press, double-press, and hold functions available to configure. Bonus points for the compact, environmentally friendly packaging. The only flaw I've found is that, as shipped, these don't sit securely on the knockdown textured walls common in the southwestern US. You may need to replace some of the adhesive on the provided metal plate.5
Setup great a little slow to respondKevanI love the price. It was easy to setup and configure. The button press and response is a little slow. Purchased to use as a light switch in room from guest bed room. Button presses and slowness to respond were confusing my mother while we use using the room. Light did not turn on and she would start pressing multiple buttons and then the light would come on and then go off real quick. She does not use any smart devices but I am used to things taking a little longer to respond and I am more patient.3
Nice Button (But Tech Savviness is Required)JakeThis is a neat gizmo, but I had to fight to get it to work with the various Matter devices I control via SmartThings. I picked up 8 of these buttons, but I needed a "proper" hub to use them. After some kicking & screaming with competing hubs, I ended up picking up an Aeotec Smart Home Hub 2 (I have mixed thoughts on Ikea's Dirigera hub, but there's inadequate room to voice them here), and the buttons mostly paired via "Partner Devices / Matter" without a hitch (outside of needing to retry a couple buttons that didn't want to connect right away). Once I got all my buttons connected with this hub, setting up routines to control various devices in SmartThings was painless. Few misc. thoughts for the road: The price ($6 as of early '26) is nice. The build quality's solid. I love being able to attach it to any magnetic surface I wish, like a fridge or microwave. To conclude: this button rocks for SmartThings, but some work & savviness is needed to "utilize" it to its fullest potential.4
Love theseJohnI bought 5 to try out…..like the, so much I’ve bought 20 more to put just about everywhere I wish had a switch. Very reliable and since they use AAA batteries, they’re much cheaper to keep working than switches that use a coin battery. Easy to pair straight into HomeKit since we already use an Apple TV.5
Unable to pairTylerSpent an hour trying to get this to pair. I have the IKEA hub and an Eero system. It sees the button, configures the device, then on the last step times out and fails to connect to the network. Unusable. 1
Great little switchAndrewI got one to try it out since it’s so affordable. It’s been working fast and consistently so far. We’ll keep an eye on how long the battery lasts over time.5
So Far so GoodNicholasWorking great so far!5
Works great with Home AssistantSteveI decided to set up a Matter+Thread network with Home Assistant using the new ZBT-2 radio and got a few IKEA products, including this one. This is pretty great, especially for the price. In Home Assistant, this comes in as events and they support single press, double press, and keypress / lift events so you can do long press. So far I've had no issues with this product. It attaches via a magnet to whatever surface you want. I've got it sticking to something metal and it's working like a charm. So easy. I'm going to get a bunch more.5
Zero app supportKyleI was really excited for these but unfortunately button and dimmer controls aren't supported in Google Home or Alexa yet, so they're useless until then. Would be fixed if you can setup the remote in Ikeas app and link from there, but that's not possible either. Hopefully someone at Ikea will address this ASAP3
TerribleRohanKeeps losing connection, need to press multiple times and hope it works, opposite of convenient1
Great for the priceForestWorks perfectly with home assistant. You can't find matter over thread devices for anywhere near the price of the Ikea lineup.5
Incredible value - BILRESA sets a new high bar in wireless smart remotes.JasonI paired two of these up directly to Home Assistant. The attention to detail on these is incredible - the sound pressing the buttons makes, the lightly textured finish and fit of the plastics. This is just an incredibly well engineered little remote. Love that it runs on AAA size cells, though, yes, this makes it a little "thick". Responsiveness is excellent. Occasionally button presses have a bit of lag, but the command is not lost, just takes a moment to bounce through the Thread mesh network. I did a quick check to see if the size would fit within a standard decora size opening. They don't fit. They're just a tad too tall and wide to work with an existing US "decora" size opening. They'll fit easily within a standard junction box, so the aftermarket will certainly deliver a nice plastic plate to sink these into a wall box. 100% will be buying more of these. Great bedside remote! Tech tip: use Claude to assist with YAML coding and you can do anything with these.5
