LOVE this bookcase!Anonymous reviewerWe bought this for a very tight space in our new townhome that had only a 13.5' area and had a TV stand picked out from somewhere else that was taking up 65 [in the middle] so we knew EXACTLY what was needed for the space and IKEA had it with these Billys. In the end, I chose the one which had the half cab/half glass feature to give hidden storage so I didn't have to look at clutter all the time. On casual observation these look black. I can tell there's some brown in there but it's not obvious. If you're going for that espresso look, this is more just black. Also, the back bottom adheres to the wall for a built in option and are curved where base molding would be so the unit fits flush against the wall. Ours was 1x4 so Hubs had to chisel out another 5/8 inch to accomodate the higher mopboard. You must have 1x3 baseboard or lower - or you have to screw around with it. Took Hubs about 3.5-4 hours to assemble one of these (we bought 2). If you're wanting that minimalist look coupled with a streamlined, neutral aesthetic these fit the bill. All my treasures and books are neatly organized inside but all the clutter is absent from tabletops. Love these. The Billys look higher quality that they are. Sturdy. Highly recommend.
