Reviews

Looks great but damages easilyMarkWe bought these because of they looked great and were reasonably priced. We created a whole wall from them. Our only criticism is that the veneer or skin/foil on them is thinner than paper and easy to scratch or damage. You have to be very careful to not damage them during installation and use. We would not recommend them if you have children because they need to be treated with care. Elsewhere in our house we have a library wall of older (25 year old) Billys and they still look great because they have real wood veneers, but these newer Billys don't.4
exactly what I wanted at a decent priceRodneyI am familiar with Ikea and BILLY/OXBERG having ordered numerous such units (22) over time. I am happy with their construction, look, ease of assembly, usability and price. It is a plus that I haven't had to worry about changing styles and matching pieces and such over the years and that your delivery, especially your delivery people, are superb. 5

Good valueKathyOne of the bookcases had damage to a side panel when we unpacked it. Since we live over 100 miles away from the nearest store, we did not go to Phoenix for a replacement . We discovered that the damage would be concealed by the back panel. Overall, the shelves and glass doors were assembled without any angst. If you have molding at the base of your wall, it will have to be removed to allow the bookcases to fit snuggly against the wall. We actually raised the bookshelves with a frame/platform because our base molding was 4”.4

Second Time AroundScottI recently moved and left behind my six unit BILLY/OXBERG bookcase set because the buyers of the house specifically asked to keep it. I loved the unit so much that I built a new unit essentially the same in my new house. For the price you can't beat the quality and looks. I get more complements about my bookcases than anything else in the house.I love the optionality with glass and solid doors as well as the extension option and ability to do corner units.5
Looks beautiful but terrible chemical fumesAnonymousThese beautiful bookcases were bought for a new home office online which concerned me due to negative reviews on delivery. The order arrived with 2 crushed boxes. The replacement process is a HUGE pain. Once replacement arrives and it can be assembled, they'll be beautiful but hope the terrible fumes lessen.2

A long-time Favorite Remains SoAnonymousBilly bookcases with doors have been a functional part of my home for years. This newest one was required when I moved. Billy provides organizational space for anything one wishes to put on its shelves. It is easy to understand why this bookcase is a staple of IKEA's offerings.5
