Doesn't match original BillysDianaWhile the color may be close enough, the edges on the new Billys are rounded and have a distinct difference in the sheen, causing a definite visual difference when placed next to, or on top of, your existing shelves. It would have been nice to have a heads up before they retired the older, higher quality, style as I now will never be able to add extensions to my entire library of shelves. Very disappointed and wish I could afford to replace everything with a different brand.

Warning: Extension not designed for the 41 3/4" bookcaseHeidiI bought the 41 3/4" bookcase and the extension because the next size up was too tall for my space. There is no information on the website indicating that these two items only go together if you're willing to drill your own holes in the top of the main bookcase. Customer support told me lack of pre-drilled holes is because some people don't want to use the extension and will want a smooth finish. That's great! Then either tell me in advance that I will need the skills and tools to figure out on my own how to put them together (a drill also wasn't mentioned in the instructions in the list of tools needed), or let people choose an option for a version of the 41 3/4" bookshelf that has the holes pre-drilled on the top of the side pieces. Customer support was friendly and wanted to help, but they sent me to a 3d party YouTube video with tips about how to drill the holes.
Great addition to our Billy Shelves HeatherWe really wanted to extend the heigh of our shelves for storage and for a sleek appearance. These were just what we needed.
Great itemSusanI appreciate all the ways IKEA is making the Billy more adaptable. This extra space at the top brings my bookcases to the ceiling, making a more built-in library look. Now, if only they’d make the desk part that attaches to Billy in this same walnut brown, my room would be complete.
Wish it said not for useCyndyIn my local Ikea store which is the only on in AZ and wanted to purchase a Billy Bookcase once we decided the one we wanted would not fit in our car we purchased a small bookcase with an height extension thinking it would work but once we got home and did all the assemble we found out the extension was not meant to be used with the size we purchased. I just wish there was something posted on the website and instore not to purchase the height extension if you purchase certain size of book case.
High Cost for Low ReturnAshleyThe bookshelves are 79.99 for six shelves once assembled. This is 30.00 for 1/6 of the material. This is very disappointing as IKEA prides itself on high quality for the best rate on the market. This goes against their philosophy and shouldn't be more than $20. Shame it's money grab.
