Perfect space saver for kids!StephanieThis bookcase/desk is a great option to store and use kids activity items. My kid's activity desk could never be used because it just became a dumping ground for everything and now the items are stored away and the desk is only open when using it. I will say that you have to pay very close attention to the directions when assembling because this item is completely different for any of the other Ikea items I have purchased in the past so take your time and pay attention to the details.
Love, love, love it!PamelaI purchased this for my art therapy office and the flexibility it offers is great. It is sitting on hardwood flooring, which I recommend for ease of transition.
I had to create my own cover to protect the table surface, duck taping placemats together.
I'm waiting for padded folding chairs to be delivered and I'll see how those work. Ikea, design such things for this piece!
Perfect for our little builders! QuaceyWe are using this in our kids room under their tv for their Lego and block storage - it’s been a hit! It’s easy to roll out and in plus sturdy. If you have little people be sure to anchor it to the wall because I believe it’d be pretty easy to fall over as the main bookshelf part is open in the back. Just my opinion as my kids are rough.

Perfect for my sewing room!KatherineThis works perfectly to have a stow-able cutting space for my sewing room! Even on carpet, it opens smoothly—you just have to make sure not to have too much weight on the lower shelves. (You could always add one of the mats for rolling desk chairs, too.) I got two to have a larger cutting space, and I’m so excited to have all of the table space WITH shelves.
Perfect Bookcase/Desk ComboJeyneleeI've been looking for some sort of desk/storage solution that would work for my small space and this bookshelf/desk combination is perfect!
I was almost going to buy the other Billy pull-out desk, but then IKEA released this one and I like it so much better. The table surface is bigger, when you put it away it sits flush with the rest of the bookcase, and the bottom shelves are still easy to reach when it's pulled out (unlike the other Billy desk where you would've had to crawl under the desk to reach the bottom shelves).
Comparison aside, this bookshelf is genuinely a really good product. The table is very sturdy and both the pull-out mechanism and the bottom wheels work smoothly. Whoever designed this at IKEA did an amazing job and I hope they come out with more convertible furniture in the future.
Not for use on carpeted floorsEmilyBought this because we saw it in store and on the Ikea smooth cement floor it worked flawlessly. Built it at home and it does not function on carpet at all. It's also very heavy, take note if you are bringing it upstairs.
Works as a shelf but un/folding is a nightmareViktoriiaI really wanted to love this bookcase/desk but the mechanism doesn't work. Almost every time you slide it in/out the sides move away from the main part and the wheels get out of the slots/top collapses. Don't recommend this.
This is such a GREAT IDEA and, makes an EXCELLENT desktop!CathyI bought this to use as my desk, appreciating the fold away feature, because I'm very short on space. My husband and 9 yr. old son both had their eyes on this because it's such a great idea! Unfortunately, my current space configuration is just too small for the width of this so, my son got an early birthday gift! Easy to assemble, all parts included, no problems encountered. The table top is sturdy and LEVEL. I was concerned about that from watching the video because it looks like it maybe sits a bit uneven but, it's flush, all good! I haven't given up on this entirely though so, another purchase may be in my future...
