The clear glass has slightly green tone.
Tempered glass is 4-5 times stronger and more resistant to breaking than regular glass. In case it would break, it shatters into many granular pieces to reduce the risk of injury.

Dont buy unless you’re buying white cabinetsAnonymous reviewerLooks absolutely awful with brown/black besta cabinate. I bought it thinking it was clear glass. Pictures are very deceiving. Stay away from besta all together, cabinets are junk with plastic hardware.
Don't remove the plastic layerJosephIt appears there's a protective plastic layer on one side of this piece of glass but it's not actually protective. IKEA puts the barcode on top of this which makes it hard to remove and makes you believe the plastic cover should be removed. But it's part of the glass. Don't remove it! There's no warning that this is part of the product and shouldn't be removed.
This would be much nicer if it was a clear piece of glass.

DO NOT BUY THIS.ChrisESPECIALLY if you have the black/brown cabinets. I bought this expecting it to be clear glass. It's not even close. The Ikea sales person knew I had the black/brown Besta, and they pointed me to this glass top. I thought there was a plastic white coating that would peel off. Nope. It looks like crap with Black, and looks like crap with white too (green tint). I drove 3 hours to get these pieces, & they are like "Sorry. But good news: You can drive another 3 hours to return it." Its a really poorly thought-out product, & a company like Ikea should know better.

Green not whiteSylviaThe latest version of this glass top has a distinct green tint to it. Very ugly against white cabinets. IKEA needs to being back the original clear/white glass.
