Perfect stool for larger people CherylIt is light weight, comfortable with generous contoured seat and handles for easy maneuvering. It has a wide base, so check your shower floor measurements. This adds to the stability though and provides a generous comfortable seat for anyone up to 330 lbs. I find it tight to walk around getting in and out of shower, but it grips floor great once placed without slipping. So if you can leave in place with water hitting your back you will love this stool. It is easy to get up and down from. I have found a lot of other uses for it around the house because it is so sturdy, lightweight, and easy to move with the built in handles. I use as a bedroom chair when getting dressed, kitchen stool, garden stool, even as a tv tray in front of the sofa. There are so many uses for this wonderful stool. My only suggestion is to offer it in a slightly higher height too as a kitchen counter stool. I love the lightweight, secure comfort it provides with its 330 lb. weight capacity.5

Front legs make it too wide for my showerNotsetThis is a nice looking and sturdy shower chair disguised as a minimalist piece of furniture. I like that it has arms. Unfortunately, I failed to measure my shower before ordering it. The widely splayed front legs that make it so sturdy, also make it too wide for my shower. Since it is such a good looking stool, I kept it to use as a bench in my small bedroom as I needed a place, besides the edge of my bed, to sit and put on my socks etc. Nice looking, sturdy but I took off one star because it doesn't fit in what I consider a standard size shower.4
Stylish, sturdy and reasonably priced shower chairKarenWe were looking for a shower bench with handles that didn’t cost $100. Couldn’t believe it when we found this bench by IKEA. It’s strong, sturdy and safe to use. And SO much nicer looking than the typical medical shower bench. The price is excellent. So glad we found this.5

Story

A little support that can make a big difference

A helping hand on your way out of the bathtub, when you want to reach the top of the bathroom cabinet – or simply feel a bit groggy on an early morning. Our BÄSINGEN product series is there for convenient support when you need it the most. Designed for the bathroom, but just as useful throughout the home.

Life at home is in constant change, and the needs can shift quickly. “Maybe you pushed extra hard in the gym and woke up feeling all stiff. Then you might need a little extra support and help with the simplest everyday things. Like taking a shower,” says designer Sarah Fager.

A safe grip

Sarah started off the project by studying how people with physical limitations move, and what their needs are. “It often feels good to be able to hold on to something with your hand. That’s why we developed the wall-mounted towel rail and shower shelf. But the step stools and the shower chair are stable and grip-friendly supports, too.” The shower chair can also add a bit of everyday luxury: imagine sitting comfortably and steadily and feeling the warm water pouring over your body.

Support that blends in with the home

The products were created to take up little space and have a minimalistic expression that is rooted in our Scandinavian design tradition. “They should blend in regardless of your style and shouldn’t be something you need to put away or hide.” Sarah hopes that the series will make a difference in the everyday life of many people. “This was one of my most challenging design projects because it was about meeting needs that were new to me. But this also made it one of my most enlightening projects. I wish BÄSINGEN will be something you can live with for a long time. Maybe you will use the products a bit less during certain periods in life, but they are always close at hand, ready to provide support.”
