Promising Start, eventual failChipI like the display, and the number of things it will monitor and for a reasonable price. However, after a few days the CO2 monitor began to lose it, climbing steadily past 1000 ppm even in outside air. Disappointing.1
A good start, but needs updatesAdamI had no trouble adding Alpstuga to Apple Home and my existing thread network. The firmware update went through smoothly, which is a good sign.
The main issues I have are:
* Temperature does not show in Apple Home. Humidity, CO2, and PM2.5 all do, but not temperature.
* Changing temperature unit from C to F does not persist, and it resets back to C.
* Dimming is nice, but I'd like a way to turn off the display altogether (or ideally, have it turn on briefly when the top button is pressed). Right now I wouldn't want to have it in a bedroom at all.
* Software updates need a changelog. We need a set URL where we can see firmware version releases with what changed. Otherwise we're stuck guessing whether our issues have been addressed.4
Great CO2 MonitorKirillThe CO2 sensor is quite accurate and serves as a reminder for me when I need to open the windows and ventilate the room.5
I’m Liking This Product!RonaldALPSTUGA Air Quality Sensor
So far I’m liking the product:
IKEA thanks for making Smart Homes affordable,
Temp
CO2
PM2.5
Humidity
4 programable functions in one affordable device.
Mattter over Tread network to reduce accessory signal congestion.
Brilliant!
Here’sthe issue I had:
Unable to reset Sensor to factory reset CO2 continues to very High 1200-1443 ppm.
Resulting in poor air quality
Sensor is on current firmware update.
Followed instructions to reset base line CO2 outdoors, at 400 ppm PM2.5 at 0 ppm reporting good air quality.
Reset, removed powered down from 2hrs. No change with CO2 status.
Will return unit for exchange.
Ordering More and other products:
Ordered second sensor appears to be working.
Will order a third and possibly 3 more + other accessories.
What I would like to see enables:
Not just Excellent, Good, Moderate, Inferior, Poor
Also the ppm data displayed.
Also *temperature in smart home app ( Apple Home ect)4
Works fine for meDelmarGreat product to identify how healthy your air is in your home. Matter connection works fine for me through Google Hub no issues.5
Easy to use and improve your air quality KaseyEasy to use out of the box. Accurate readings and easy to read measurements are something you can’t get from Amazon or any other store.5
Great, but a frustrating lack of memoryVictor ManuelThe Good:
The sensor is very accurate. Compared to more expensive air quality monitors, the CO2 and PM2.5 readings are consistent and fast. The design is clean, and the display is very easy to read.
The Downside:
The biggest drawback of this device is that it does not have internal memory or a backup battery for its settings. Every time you disconnect it from the power to move it to another room, or if there is a simple power flicker, the sensor loses all its configurations. You have to manually set up the time and the format (12h/24h) all over again because it resets to factory defaults. It is disappointing that a "smart" device in 2026 cannot save simple user preferences or keep the clock running for a few minutes without power.
Verdict:
If you plan to leave it plugged into one spot forever, it’s fine. But if you want to move it around the house, be prepared to re-configure it every single time you unplug it.3
Questionable measurementsAaronNo problems setting up and connecting to Apple home but something very off with readings. Hopefully can be fixed via firmware but CO2 frequently goes up very high even with no one in the room to 1100+. Airthings sensor moved right next to it reads around 590. Also not sure if PM2.5 is working since 0 since purchased. Firmware is 1.0.151
If you’re having trouble pairing with Home Assistant, read thisJDisappointed to see that the temperature and humidity do not show in the Apple home app, but if you’re like me and have Home Assistant, make sure both your hub (apple tv in my case) and home assistant are connected via Ethernet. I tried literally everything else until it finally hit me to try that and it worked instantly once I did.
I split my Wi-Fi band between two and 5 GHz, manually routed from Home Assistant to my hub, disabled ipv4, disabled security settings, watched the logs while pairing, nothing worked. I was about to create VLANS to get it to work lol
Now that I connected both via Ethernet it’s rock solid and logging everything for a week with no issues. Don’t give up, yall! It’s a great product with home assistant.4
Not compatible with Apple as promisedPeoThe specs say that this works with Apple HomeKit but both Temperature and Humidity does not show up in Apple home so that is unfortunately false advertisement from IKEA if they can not fix this with a software upgrade sooner than later.2
Works Dirigera and Home Assistant.JerryReasonably accurate CO2 sensor for the price. As an mains powered devices it helps with creating a Thread mesh for battery powered devices too. Compares well with Switchbot's CO2 Meter.5
Easy to set up. Integrates well with Home Assistant.IanI have this in a small closet-sized "room" that I am considering to use as a potential office or studio. ALPSTUGA is incredibly responsive to the CO2 and PM levels in that area. Within moments of me walking over, it's basically shown immediate responses to changes in the air.5
Fantastic Air Monitor for Home Assistant at a great price!JasonAs a Home Assistant user, I wanted to test these new, affordable IKEA devices, so I bought a "sampler platter" of one each of a few to give them all a shakedown before committing to additional units. After migrating to a ZBT-2 for Zigbee, I converted my SMLIGHT SLZB-06M to Matter over Thread connected via USB.
Adding them directly to Home Assistant via my Android phone was simple once I transferred the Thread credentials to the HA app. After the phone sees the new device, select "Add via another method", then select Home Assistant. There's no need to involve anything else.
The Alpstruga was the second device. It added quickly and showed a firmware update shortly afterwards. The sensors were all available as expected.
The only annoying thing was the time.
Who sets clocks manually these days???
Fret not! Loweack saves the day with Matter Time Sync available in HACS! The only minor quibble is vanquished!
Alpstruga is awesome! Highly recommended!5
AwesomeMaruthiProduct is definitely worth its rice and designed well 5
Some things actually MatterWayneThe device came with outdated firmware, and from what I read, that's the source of the problems I'm having. I bought this because of the Matter support, and should not need to buy a proprietary hub. That would defeat the purpose of Matter. From what I've read, and Ikea's own documentation confirms this, I need their hub to update the firmware. In other words, I need to buy their hub to have a product that works without their hub.
Their own app starts off asking me to add a hub . It won't work with an existing hub that supports Matter. It would be more cost effective to throw this away and buy a competing product unless IKEA can come up with a solution.
It's not as if the current firmware just came out.2
Good value but big annoyancesJFirst, the good: For the price, this is an excellent value, considering you get CO2 and PM2.5. I'm happy that Ikea went all in on Matter, I feel that it's the best path forward. The display's auto dimming works great - it's never too bright in my room at night.
The bad: My big annoyance is that the temperature units and time setting between 24h and AM/PM do not save every time it loses power/gets unplugged. The time also doesn't sync after replugging it in. Very irritating having to push the buttons to change those settings every time I plug it back in. I hope this can be fixed via firmware update. Power cord not being included also is inconvenient.
At least 1 decimal point of precision for temperature on the screen would be nice. It would also be nice to have a version with a bigger screen so I can see multiple values at once.
Lastly, I only recommend HomeAssistant for this. Alexa/Apple Home don't show all the sensor data. Not Ikea's fault though.3
Matter worksJesseWorks as expected. Love that they added matter5
Good bang for the buck, but could use some firmware improvementsKenVery cost effective device. However, I'd like to see the ability to calibrate the sensors. In particular, it seems that the temperature and humidity sensors aren't very accurate. It would also be great if there was an easy way to sync the clock through Home Assistant.3
Good sensor, but nobody wants MatterScottThe sensor is great and the value is really good, but I can’t give more than 2 stars for abandoning Zigbee and requiring a brand new hub after years of excellent Zigbee support. This is especially frustrating because the main chip in this device and its antenna both support Zigbee, but IKEA has decided not to implement Zigbee firmware support just to force you to re-buy a new hub and replace all existing lights, switches, and sensors.
It’s even worse that nowhere on this product is it clarified that it’s Matter over Thread, it just says “Matter”2
Great price and works good.KevanI like the device and the setup into HomeKit was great. It reports the air quality in HomeKit. It is not reporting the temp, humidity to the environment systems like the other Temp and humidity sensors. Also occasionally it changes the read outs from Fahrenheit to Celsius and 12 hr to 24 hr.
Other wise it is great.5
